It’s a big weekend of stakes action at the Twin Spires and we look at the field for The Tepin, a flat mile stakes for the sophomore fillies over the CD turf course.  It doesn’t happen often where I’m in agreement with the Green Card, but we both landed on Ice Crystal as the top choice in this one.  She’s a turf loving filly and has brought home checks in nine of ten races.  This looks like another spot where she can get the job done.  Down to the rail for the second choice and Inquisition fills that spot.  She won last out on the WO grass, taking down ON-bred Alw horses, but she’s got a ton of speed and the rail and that could spell winner in this race.

Here’s The Field –

1
Inquisition    Arindel    Gutierrez Mario   122   3/1

She’s been rock solid this year hitting the board in all five races with a pair of wins including last out taking down Alw horses at WO in wire-to-wire fashion.  She has speed and light to flaunt it so look for her to be on the pace in this one as well.

2
   Erudition    Keikowin Racing    Saez G   122   10/1

Got the job done breaking maiden at SA last out and was recently sold at the June Auction for $16.000, and they jump into the deep end going right after stakes company.  She like the grass showing a win and two second in three turf tries, but this is obviously a step up for her.

3
   Painville    Mb Stables    2aramillo E   124   9/2

She won the La Senorita Stakes last year to cap off that three but it’s been tough sledding since then.  She was third sprinting at PRX on the lawn and fourth last out at WO going a mile, but she’s just not in her old form and has to carry two extra pounds for that stakes score.

4
Point Of Honor    High Voltage    Bridgmohan S X   122   5/1

Shows two wins this year, both vs. Alw types and was up-the-track vs graded horses at GP.  All of her races have been on the main track and they switch to the lawn for this one, so how she responds will be interesting, but I’ll probably look at another.

5
Ice Crystal    Smokey Stover    Gaffalione T   122

Another with two wins this season, both of those on the grass and vs. Alw horses.  She was second in a stakes at SA to close out her freshman campaign and this could be a spot for her to get the job done.
