Five Mares Ready to Get It On in The Noble Damsel at BEL

10/23/21

2   BEL      The Noble Damsel  (GIII)

$200.000   3yo&Up F&M    1m Turf   3yo 121lbs  Older 124lbs +penalties

Only a field of five set to go a flat mile on the BEL turf as we look at the field for The Noble Damsel (GIII).  At first, it almost looked like the race wouldn’t fill, but we did get enough to make it to post, and that’s always a good thing.  No reason to get fancy here so I’ll go with the class and put Maggie Greene on top today.  It’s a bit shorter than her norm, but this mare certainly knows how to win taking down fourteen of lifetime forty-seven starts and nearly $4mil in purse money.  She has speed as well, so the mile may be a new lease on life for her.  Let’s go right next door and give Deep Atonement a shot to get the job done.  She’s been the runner up in her last two starts and looks to be sitting on a big effort.  That last out race was very quick, and she may pull this one out.

Here’s The Field –

1
Absolutely Creepy    Black N Gold Stable    Gaffalione T   124   5/2

A pair of wins this season including the Miss Houston back in Apr and the Solana Beach two back when she took down Cal-bred stakes types.  She closed to be second last out in the Violet and looks ready to run big again in this one.  She really never runs a bad race, so make sure you use her on all tickets.

2
Deep Atonement    Nakamura Stables    Franco M   124   7/2

Another that has been a big factor in just about ever single race this season and comes into today with a pair of runner-up finishes vs. Alw horses.  That was a quick race at MTH last out where she had the lead turning for home but again settled for the runner-up spot.  She has nine lifetime wins, so don’t be fooled, she knows how to bring home the bacon.

3
Maggie Greene    The Sidley Stud    Jaramillo E   124   9/5

Classy mare that holds her own vs. just about any company.  Only a single win this season, but she’s been on the board in six graded stakes… she’s all class and ability.  She had four wins last season and won the BC F&M Turf (GI) but it looks like she won’t be going this season… which may be bad for this group today.

4
Strategic North    Mwn Racing    Ortiz I Jr   124   5/1

She’s been lightly raced, this is only her third start of the ’21 season, but she took down Alw horses at PRX sprinting on the Philly grass, then just missed at SA in the Swingtime Stakes at SA in her most recent.  They bring her back on short rest, but with only two starts this year, she should be ready to give a big effort in this one.

5
Dime Piece    First Flight Stable    Bridgmohan S X   124   15/1

This is from my “lot of losers” and I hate covering my own horses but she’s only in because someone asked if I could help fill the race and I obliged.  She won on the soggy SAR sod last out taking down OptAlw types, and I wouldn’t be disappointed if we got a nice NY shower for this one.  She’s the outsider to say the least.
