The NY Breeders Futurity ($200.000 Purse)
FL- For Two Year Olds Foaled in NY
Six Furlongs on the Dirt
October 18, 2021
We get two rarities on Monday, the first of which being a big race on a Monday that is not part of a three day weekend, and the second being a chance to come to and cover a race from Western New York. The NY Breeders Futurity, held at FL, is a terrific opportunity for up and coming New York breds to show their abilities. This field does have that feel, too, of horses that are on the rise, other than having graded runners who did not get the job done drop down into this and hope to get back on track. Last year, Mb Stables won this race with Leas Chance, a horse that’s been able to win though it does not have that one big victory, other than this one, that you can point to. She was ridden by J R Davila Jr, and any virtual trainer who has nominated a horse at FL knows that’s the one you want in the saddle. Davila has stepped up in this race, too, winning it five times, and in three of the last four years. Now, let’s meet his mount and the rest of them for this race!
#1- Perfect Secrets (La Canada Racehorses, ridden by L E Perez)- Won on debut on April 3rd, which pretty much means it’s going to be a while before you can race again. He resurfaced in the Grade 3 Bashford Manor, and was fifth and has not even been in the top three since. Was fourth here in the Aspirant Stakes, missing by three lengths and not being able to go to sleep that night before undergoing the snip.
#2- We Rumble (Kingelleinc, ridden by J R Davila Jr)- This is the horse that Davila chose, so right away you have to think it will be one of the favorites. He would be claimed in May for $50.000, and Kingelleinc took the time to get him right, and ran him for the first time in August, breaking his maiden at SAR. A month later, he ran third in the $150.000 Bongard at BEL, getting his photo taken with the winner.
#3- Strike Fire (Lindeman Prairie, ridden by K Navarro)- We have two “Fire” horses in the field, so you would think one of them, at least, was sired by Fire N Fury. Not one bit! They are each by Ez Fire! Strike Fire is going to have to show something to get that attention for his sire. Really, he’s yet to do that, with just a win at BTP, and two other results where he was four and five lengths off the winner. His works show he has potential.
#4- Fibber (D J C Racing Stables, ridden by Os Gomez)- The trainer has had a lot of success here at FL over the years, and did win this race back in 2017. Fibber has been a competitive racer although has only won once in his five starts, which was at the CT bullring. That competitive side has shown otherwise, though, placing second in the $75.000 AP Washington Futurity, then running fourth (and within a length) at the Bongard. Should be a strong contender.
#5- Lake Dipper (Greeko Holdem, ridden by T Piermarini)- A horse that has made just two starts, struggling on debut and was then sold off in the auction for just $6.320. Apparently, not many people were believers, but with Greeko Holdem, he broke his maiden at BEL, and earned an 88 SRF in the process. Can he build on that even further in this race? His works show that he can.
#6- Proxy (D J C Racing Stables, ridden by A J Ayala)- Second of the two horses that the trainer has in this race, and Proxy will be coming here off of breaking his maiden. That came while running a mile at MTH, and winning in a dead heat, but three lengths ahead of the third place finisher. Six weeks prior he barely missed out on winning at SAR, losing by a neck. I wish he had a little more recent six furlong work to compare to the others here, but no reason he can’t win this race, either.
#7- Forever Fire (Mb Stables, ridden by A S Worrie)- Here is the other horse in the field that is by Ez Fire, and he has one win in four starts. The maiden victory came at BEL, and off of that, he took a trip up I-87 to SAR and ran third on a rain soaked day in the $100.000 Violet. Tried his luck at running a mile in the Saplin at MTH last month, and was second, but like Proxy, he’s cutting back to a sprint for this race.
Prediction: 2-4-5-7
