On Sunday, we were able to look at some talented two-year-old fillies, who, early in their careers have flashed a lot of potential. It also featured Fractious picking right up where he left off prior to his time away, as his new acquisition, Lady Lobo, earned the victory. The trainer picked up the Conquest filly for $325.000 five weeks ago and would get an immediate result here with this win. It’s the first win in the race for Fractious, and the second for jockey T Gaffalione. Congratulations to them! The winning race time was 1:09.65, which is among the better such times. Let’s take a look at it now:

(1/4 Mile- :22.24)- Fresh off the also eligible’s, Ontario Pharmacist takes the lead for Williams9 and leads by a length and half down the backstretch. Fellow outside starter, Flight Oligarchy, is second for Riggins Racing, a length ahead of Williams9’s Tonic Wine and Night Rider Stables’ Spicy Lilah, who run evenly. Behind them, Island Connection is fifth for Nakamura Stables, with Sherbini nearby for D J C Racing Stables. It’s clustered behind them, with four horses running near to one another. Rampage Stable’s Rock Steady is on the outside, while towards the inside, we have She Is Into It (Jerry Garcia Racing), Party Expert (TwinTowersRacing), and Spring Ginger (The Sidley Stud). At the back are Ideal Impression (La Gloria Stable), and our eventual winner from Fractious, Lady Lobo. She’ll have to make up a seven-length deficit.

(½ Mile- :45.57, Top of Stretch, 1.8F To Go)- Ontario Pharmacist continues to look good out in front and will hope to go wire to wire here. Fight Oligarchy is a length back, with any progress being made on the leader to be minor, at best. There’s a gap of about two to a cluster of horses which sees Island Connection between half a length ahead of the fatiguing Tonic Wine and Spicy Lilah. From there, little separates the rest of the field. Lady Lobo is still trailing and will need to make at least a six or seven wide push in the stretch to try and pull this off.

(Finish- 1:09.65)- While it will not always be ideal to take such a wide trip in the stretch, it would turn out to be good for Lady Lobo because it would be like she was avoiding rush hour traffic in front of her. As Ontario Pharmacist had visions of taking this all the way to end with only slight progress being made by Fight Oligarchy, Lady Lobo was having her own fight on the outside. With half a furlong to go, she had moved into third and hoped to get it up in time for the win. With T Gaffalione’s urging, we learned that Lady Lobo has plenty of heart as she dug down to get the win, and nearly doing so by a full length. Ontario Pharmacist made the most of her appearance from the also eligible list by hanging on for second over a dead heat between Fight Oligarchy and the late running Rock Steady. Ideal Impression is the best of the rest, beating She Is Into It, Party Expert, Sherbini, Spring Ginger, Island Connection, Spicy Lilah, and Tonic Wine.

About The Winner- Lady Lobo, trained by Fractious, and ridden to victory by T Gaffalione, is a two-year-old filly by Conquest and is out of Bay Area. She was bred by Wood Duck Stables in Florida as a yearling and was acquired by Fractious for $325.000 in a private sale last month. Congratulations to the connections! She’s 2-for-2 in her career, and this is her first stake win. Her career earnings are now $153.000.
