FRIDAY BEL RECAP

2  BEL    The True North (GII)
$300.000        4yo&Up       6 1/2f    Dirt           123lbs

Gdp Inc should get a ton of credit for this one… in a time where horses are retired (or worse) without concern, this barn stuck by Not Trippin Now and look where it’s landed them – back to back graded wins from a horse that could have been claimed for a mere $8.000 just six races back.  Today, the six year old gelding tracked the pace, moved up quickly on the turn, took over as they entered the stretch and won the True North (GII) by a length in a final time of 1:142 for the six and a half furlongs.  Tallmadge Star had every chance in the world but settled for second, a length ahead of longshot Broadway Bay in third.  Relate took the minor money.

Not Trippin Now is a 6yo bay gelded son of Not Laffin Now – Pink Moon Echo, by Babookshka, and he was bred in PA by his owner, Gdp Inc.  This was his fourth win from eleven starts, all of those coming this season, and he now shows earnings of $524.150.  Congrats to the connections.

3  BEL    The Bed o Roses Hcp (GIII)
$300.000        4yo&Up F&M     7f    Dirt           Hcp Weights

When the big barn doesn’t part with a horse, he likes something about it… Mb Stables stuck by Why You Do That after a few less that perfect races, dropped her to Alw to get her form back and now it’s paid off with another graded win for the bay filly, as she took the Bed o Roses Hcp (GIII) by three-quarters of a length.  The final running time for the seven furlongs was 1:212.  The minor placings were very close, but Grand Cyclone took second by a head over Sinissipi Strange, then a nose to Starship Twister in fourth, another nose to Unprecedented in a hard luck fifth, only four lengths from front to back in the field of ten.

Why You Do That is a 4yo bay filly by Marketable – You Can Do It, by Wunununu and she was bred in FLA by Mb Stables.  This was her fifth win from twelve starts, and she now shows earnings of $454.410.  Congratulations to the connections.

4  BEL    The BEL Gold Cup (GII)
$400.000        4yo&Up      1 1/2m  Turf           123lbs

Well, I got to see it… even if it was by a nose.  Maxmillion Farm’s Stallsome took Friday’s BEL Gold Cup (GII) by the slimmest of margins, showing good speed throughout the marathon affair and getting the mile and a half in 2:243 on a turf course labeled Firm.  My top selection, Raj Action Packed had the lead, but just couldn’t hold off the eventual winner.  99/1 shot Key Biscayne was two lengths back in third, with Money Truck taking the minor money.

Stallsome is a 6yo black gelded son of Handsome Stallion – Feels So Good, by Sven, and he was bred in Cal by Our Athletes.  Privately purchased for $10.000 back in April of 2018, this was his seventh win from twenty-one starts and he now has earnings of $651.860.  Congrats to Max and Stallsome.
