Fury Stakes is Sunday Feature at WO

While the Toronto Raptors will be trying to capture game seven against the 76ers in downtown T.O. on Sunday, over in Rexdale there will be six hopefuls looking to capture the Fury Stakes. It is also Mothers Day as well, so Happy Mothers Day to all those wonderful moms who have hearts bigger then the universe when it comes to loving their children. One day, these three year old fillies will hopefully have the chance of feeling that joy as well.

  • Fury Stakes – Purse $125.000
  • Woodbine Racetrack- For Fillies three years old
  • Seven Furlongs Main track
  • May 12th, 2019

This is an interesting mix of runners for this affair. Some have already captured a stakes title, some have just recently broke their maiden, and one is still is search of her first victory, but all in all, it will make for a great closing race for the card.

One’s who have already taken home a stakes victory in their career in this event are both Sassy Mamba ( Mb Stables ) and Eutectoid Point ( Second Chance Farms ). Sassy Mamba won the Gasparilla Stakes in her opener of the season, and tried a step up into the Gr. II Las Virgenes Stakes in her next effort. She showed early speed in that race going a mile, but faded late. Should like this distance better for a share. As for Eutectoid Point, she won the Martha Washington Stakes in February hoping to take that effort to the Kentucky Oaks. Is coming off a runner-up effort in the Star Shoots going six furlongs, so will definitely be a factor here.

Concentrating her efforts at a mile or better in her four career starts, Smokey Stover’s Kapalua is coming off a disappointing finish in the Gr. III Fantasy at OP. Prior to that, she broke her maiden and captured an Alw43 race. Can get into the mix early, so watch for her to set some early fractions.

One who has been unable to find the winners enclosure since her maiden win is Team 7 Illusions Firekeepers. Has earned a few shares taking to grass in her last three starts hoping that surface would spark a victory, but the move to the tapeta surface could prove interesting. Did show some late charge going five and a half here in two stakes affairs, so the extra distance could prove welcoming.

After two attempts on the turf going five furlongs down at Houston without any success at breaking her maiden, Aces High Ltd’s Mill Wheel headed northward and found the victory she needed to break her maiden. That came going a longer mile and a sixteenth here over the main track, and at 17-1 odds. Times for that event were considerably slower then normal, so she will need to be up on it for this event.

Final entry of Charlies Heart ( Chili King Stables ) has yet to break her maiden, and is making a major step here to hopefully not only break it, but win a stakes event in the process. Added both Lasix and Bute last time out, and it helped to almost seal the deal down at GP. Has a couple of seven furlong works down in Florida since that event, and they look promising. Has worked here on the both surfaces, and may see some long odds today. Worth a toonie for sure.
