5 KEE Jessamine (GII) [BC]
$150.000 2yoF 1 1/16m Turf 2yo 122lbs
One of my favorite races and a race that I’ve been lucky enough to see a few times in RL, there is nothing like fall in Lexington… so let’s look at the field for Wednesday’s Jessamine (GII) to be run at a mile and a sixteenth on the lush lawn here at KEE. I’m going to give the nod to Down In The Gulley today, off of that nice closing win at AP vs. stakes horses. She looks classy and distance shouldn’t be a problem, so she gets the nod from me. I’ll go towards the outside and give Dukes Pink a shot to get in the middle of things today, and that wire to wire win to break maiden vs. stakes horses must be respected. She looks like a turf monster. These baby races can have any type of finish, but these two stand out to me.
Here’s The Field –
Nice bounce back to win a ONT-bred stakes at WO last out, and I think she proved that she likes the grass and a route of ground on that afternoon. She broke maiden on the ELP grass as well and that stakes in between may have proven that she doesn’t like to contest the early pace. Give her a big look here today.
Broke maiden at FE at first asking and then they gave her a big of time to mature, and her works say she did just that. A nice 1:36 flat work at CRC getting ready for today tells you that she can get it. She may come with some odds as well, so don’t sleep on her.
Broke maiden in her fourth trip to the race track then ran seventh at WO facing graded horses for the first time. It doesn’t get a lot easier here today so despite the barn, she is going to have to show me more to get me on her bandwagon.
Was up the track in the DMR Debutante (GI) after breaking maiden at MTH prior to that race. So they switch her over to the sod for the first time and her works certainly indicate that she has a hankering for the green stuff. Can she get the job done here?
Broke maiden at first asking, sold for a pretty penny and hit the board in two stakes efforts, then faltered when facing graded horses. Well, it’s more of that here in this one, so she either has to run bigger or it’s going to be another long day at the race track.
Back to back wins as she broke maiden in her third start and then came back to beat Alw horses at LAD last out. Those wins were on the grass, so she seems to like it over here. Can she make it three in a row and change her outlook on life?
Another that broke her maiden at first asking and had two near misses vs. stakes horses including a second in the Sorrento Stakes (GII) at DMR. That last out is a baffle to me, but she really never lifted a foot in the DMR Debutante (GI). Can she shake that off and bounce back in this one?
Had three good races in TX-bred company, breaking her maiden and then a second and a third in stakes company, then threw a less than desirable race in the La Senorita at RET, only to bounce back big in the AP Washington Lassie. If the traffic doesn’t get in her way, she could be the one to beat.
Two wins and a second from three starts, so you know she can run, but this is her first start vs. stakes horses and they go for the gusto. Sharp barn that knows hot to get the job done, now do they have the horsepower to pull it off? She seems to like the grass, so I’d keep an eye on her.
Two wins in three starts for this one and she looked good getting the job done at LAD taking the Happy Ticket on the grass in her most recent. She was also fourth in a turf stakes at RET so she really hasn’t run a bad race. This could be a spot for her to move her stock way up.
The best way to break maiden is vs. stakes horses and she did it last out in her fourth start. She’s been close in all of her other races but that was her first start on the lawn and she sure did look good going wire to wire at MTH in the Sorority Stakes. If she can get past the outside post, she should be tough.
Two wins and a third in three starts, all of the good races were on the grass, plus the seventh was her debut and we know how that can go. She looks to be a filly that wants to go long so give her a shot to be in the middle of this one.
Sits on the AE list hoping to draw in with two wins from three starts and this would be her first try on the turf. Not even a published work on the green stuff but she can run so let’s see if she gets in here.
