Gendarmerie Looks Strong in Prince of Wales Stakes

Prince of Wales Stakes – $400.000 Purse
FE – For Three Year Olds Foaled in Canada
1 3/16th Mile – Dirt
September 13, 2022

All but one of these three-year-olds faced off in the Queens Plate, including second place Gendarmerie and third place State General. Ocean Of Wisdom is grade 1 winner of the BEL and could be a factor with the step down in class. And don’t count out Dwyer winner, Brave Freedom.

Here’s the field:

#1 State General (Mb Stables) Allowance winner and stakes placed. Has only finished out of the money once in seven career starts. Second in the Plate Trial Stakes two starts back and third in the Queens Plate last out, both in restricted company. Like his chances here.

#2 Brave Freedom (Nakamura Stables) Won the Grade 3 Dwyer two starts back, then finished off the board last out in the Queens Plate, but if he can get back to form he could get a piece of the purse.

#3 The Generals Quest (Glorify Stables) Has just a maiden win to his credit but finished second in the Queenston and third in the Plate Trial. Did not fair well last out in the Queens Plate.

#4 Chancellor (Mo Mentum Farm) Won in optional claiming company in April, then finished second in the Sir Barton. Did not show much in the IND Derby (G3) or the Queens Plate.

#5 Gendarmerie (Mo Mentum Farm) Winner of the Plate Trial Stakes and second in the Queens Plate. A very strong contender.

#6 Ocean Of Wisdom (Nakamura Stables) Won the BEL (Grade 1) in June but couldn’t get to the winner’s circle in either of his next two grade 1 efforts. This should be a softer spot for him which could get him part of the purse.

#7 Bruddafrmanuddamudda (Arindel) Allowance winner, finished fourth in the Queens Plate. May lack experience to compete here.

Picks: 5-1-6
