As I wrote about earlier the twin mile and 1/8^th turf stakes races today at Belmont here is the male version of the race. The weather stayed perfect for both races and the turf came back firm. All 6 horses who drew into the race made their way to the starting gate. As the gates swung open all of the horses appeared to get out of the gates well. The field spread out fairly quickly in this race with 3 horses wanting to get on the gas early. The Quickest of all was Beav Barley who had a ¾ length lead on Commercial Grade ¼ mile into the race. Sitting just behind these 2 was Bridal General who was along the rail. A half mile into the race the top 3 in the running order went unchanged however Commercial Grade was putting all kinds of pressure on Beav Barley going the first half mile in 47 and 2. After 6 furlongs Commercial Grade made a confident move to the front as he eased by Beav Barley who was sitting in 2^nd. Bridal General was still in 3^rd but the closers were starting to unwind with General White and Got It Going starting their runs. Those 2 horses looked to be the danger to Commercial Grade but there wasn’t a lot of time to catch this leader. A mile into the race Commercial Grade had opened up on the field and had a 2 and a half length lead on General White who had hit his best stride and was moving along the inside. Got It Going had moved into 3^rd past Beav Barley who appeared to have thrown in the towel. It was going to be a mad dash to the line but Commercial Grade looked like the most likely winner. However with just about .2 furlongs to go General White was able to eat up that gap on Commercial Grade and passed him to nab the win. Commercial Grade was able to hold off Got It Going for 2^nd.
