Talk about Yin and Yang… I always try to use a musical theme to my write-ups for big races, like the 2023 KYD (GI), but I’m not sure if this year’s rendition should be My Old Kentucky Home or Amazing Grace.  It’s a tough one to put together, but the show must go on… Mike would want it that way, and we look at the field for the greatest two minutes in virtual sports.

The forecast calls for isolated showers on Friday and Partly Cloudy, 24% chance of rain on Saturday, as of this going to press… so my thoughts are based on a Fast track… if that changes, so will this write-up.

**NOTE:  We have a major update in the weather forecast… the chance of rain has changed from 24% to 47%, and this could throw the complexion of the race into a tizzy.  Stay tuned for more information.

When we talk about big races, big horses, big stages, the conversation here at HRP begins and ends with Mb Stables, and Jacks Courage will be my top selection today.  My first statement is, I think Mb will win the race… now, how does he get it done?  Jack seems to be the horse for the course, coming into today with four consecutive wins, all stakes, and each bigger than the prior.  My ONLY question with him is the distance, so can he get the mile and a quarter?  I think so.

Let’s go to the far outside post and put Keep Me Apprised in the second spot.  Only two wins, but he’s done it at the right time, getting home by a neck like a runaway train in the FL Derby (GI).  If he can put that run together with a clear path, it’s going to be hard to tell him that he can’t win.  He must be feared in every way.

Another with a late turn of foot and an unblemished sophomore season is Terran Destiny, and we will put him in the third spot.  That win in the LA Derby, going a mile and three sixteenths, has to be a key race when looking at this group.  The big question mark to me is stamina, and I think this gelding has it… and what it takes.

Best of luck to everyone… to have a horse in the gate is one heck of an accomplishment and I wish a fair trip to all the combatants… and in the words of Mills Lane, Let’s Get It On!!
