Girls Night Looks Lone Talent in Black-Eyed Susan

D J C Racing Stables black filly has three straight victories heading into this event, and when your winning at this game, it is sometimes hard not to keep on winning with every challenge that confronts you.

  • The Black-Eyed Susan Stakes – Purse $250.000
  • Pimlico Race Course- For Fillies Three Years old
  • One Mile and one eighth in distance- Main Track

Nine full runners will attack this nine panel distance here in Maryland, all with hopes of adding this title to their wall. Girls Night has been on a roll of late with three straight victories. While she has yet to be tested at this distance, her last effort in the $100 East View at AQU saw her sit some five lengths back of the pace, then fire down the stretch drive to win by a narrow neck margin at the wire. That came at seven panels, so the added two furlongs here should play to her liking, and the talents of Bejarano in the tack should bring this filly home.

So who else should we be considering as an upsetter? All the other eight candidates are non winners in their last events, but who seems to be poised to turn things around. We must consider the likes of One Step West (Maxmillion Farm ), who has been finishing in the purse money in five of her last six starts. Was a recent claimer before her last effort, and now the stretch out in distance could find her grabbing a few more dollars.

Fashionable ( Mb Stables ) has shown a preference for closing on the field late in the game, and this distance may just be what her trainer has been building her up for to make a dent. She did compete in two Grade II affairs in her most recent starts, missing by just a half a length in the Davona Dale. Worth an investment I’m sure.

Two others who caught my eye are Charming Beauty ( Nakamura Stables ) and Interpoint ( Night Rider Stables ). While Nak is sending out a pair from the two inside chutes, Charming Beauty had to contend with a number 12 hole, and was sent out quickly to try and get to the rail, leaving her little for the stretch drive. The rail will be more to her liking and trainer regular Gryder while keep her in check I’m sure. As for Interpoint, while she has just two wins in ten career starts, she has finished runner-up 50% of the time. While she has had a preference for the westcoast, the add of Johnny V to the irons should have her in the hunt for this victory.

Others on the card will be Hollywood Phooey ( Nakamura Stables ), Wild Again ( Aer Stables), Honey Snake ( Estero Farms), and Coconut Princess ( Rampage Stable ).
