They say you can’t keep a good horse down and this six year old just keeps coming back from the dead in the big races. The last time he won a grade one was the BC Turf Sprint last year but since then whilst still running very well he has looked a bit like the years were catching up with him. Today though as tends to happen when this horse and trainer get to the big prizes everything fell into place for the champion sprinter. Drawn inside, a position that he hasn’t been blessed with too often, his beloved wet track conditions and the new turf jockey that replaced the likes of Colon and Pennington as the go to jockey in turf races.
So with all those things in his favor, a recent lightening work it was no surprise to see him flying home for a pretty clear cut one length win. Onto the BC he goes to defend his crown and who knows, with circumstances like this again he could easily repeat his great win of last year.

2nd The Grandmaster John Henry Velazquez J R

Drawn out this grand sprinter had to work hard to get an early stalk but stuck on like the tough sort we all know he is to hold onto second. This was a welcome return to form for the five year old but like the winner he is proven on a wet track and in big races so things may have clicked into place for him today.

3rd Cold Weather Rider Night Rider Stables Castellano J J

It really was a day for the vets as this six year old surpassed his recent form to get into third after being taken back from the wide draw. This was a great effort in a tough field and the trainer has once again proved that they can pretty much enter anything in these big races and get them to run well.

4th Boardwalk Fractious Beschizza A

Fourth in the KYD and fourth in the KD Turf Sprint, i am not sure many three year olds in real life would have followed that career path but things like trip and surface don’t mean as much at HRP and this is clearly a horse with bags of ability. Beaten just a length by a BC Champion Sprinter on ground that probably suited him least of the top four was a very good effort.
