There are long-shots, and then there are LONG-shots and then there are LOOOOOOONG-SHOTS… Twin Towers Racing set the tote board on fire as their charge Gold Futures lit it up at 99/1 (1203.70/1) closed relentlessly to take Saturday’s Santa Margarita (GII) by a half-length in a final time of 1:48.54 for the mile and an eighth main track stakes.  Pocono Fashion pressed the pace as the second choice, but could not hold off the eventual winner, taking the place.  Zombie Storm, another long-shot at 27/1 took a three-horse photo and the third spot, a head better than Flawed Justice in fourth.

Gold Futures is a 5yo bay mare by Foresight – Tears Of Gold, by Overlordship, and she was bred in NY by Estero Farms.  Acquired by Twin TowersRacing at the Dec 2018 Auction for $21.010, she now shows six wins from twenty-four starts and has $311.690 in earnings.  This was her first win of the ’21 season in four starts and this was her first career stakes win… it was a BIG one!

Gold Futures taken back after the start, lacked interest to the far turn, roused, responded, closed full of run, won driving.  Pocono Fashion tracked the pace throughout, up to battle through the lane, could not hold off the winner late.  Zombie Storm broke alertly, set the pace to the top of the lane, headed, out-finished.  Flawed Justice forced the pace to the far turn, out-kicked, and just missed show.  Precise Performance close-up throughout, out-finished, got the worst of the head-bob.  Techno Cheryl was not involved.  Exploration trailed throughout.
