Good Authority Very Good In Winning In Reality

October 2, 2016

The rains came at GP on Saturday afternoon for the FL Sire Stakes-In Reality and while the top FL-bred juveniles took to the field, it was a shipper from DMR who stole the show when Good Authority completed a Mb Stables exacta from just off the pace. A son of talented sire Commanding, he closed to a decent fourth against the best of his division at DMR and came back to GP for his two-turn debut, earning a second win in five career starts while pushing past $355.000 in lifetime receipts.

Two-year-olds on a sloppy track can lead to any number of scenarios and Sweep The Mach (10.25) took the lead into the first turn with Good Authority (2.40) to her outside and Devil Water (2.40) sitting nice from the rail. Single One (75.25) also moved forward from an outside gate but Good Authority took the lead from Sweep The Mach as those two raced into the backstretch through the first split in 25.25. The inside of those two quickly took command with his shadow falling back by two-lengths into second, and it was a further two-lengths back to the rest of the field with Zigmunderful (*2.35) still out wide but as the sextet marched to the second turn, a middle quarter that was faster than the first could have been the downfall for the runaway leader. Devil Water started to inch forward as Single One began to tire a little and through the six-furlongs in 1:15.38, it was clear that Good Authority was handling the ground best as he began to eat into the lead of Sweep The Mach with each stride. By the time the field hit the head of the lane, the stablemates had taken control with Zigmunderful trying to close and at the wire, those three were separated by only a length with Good Authority just outlasting Devil Water for the win. Sweep The Mach tired late but still held a clear fourth while Brontasaurus (4.10) never got involved, beating only a tired Single One who did not handle the off-going at all.

Good Authority was excellent in the DMR Futurity and ran to his pedigree in the FL Sire Stakes, earning a huge paycheck over the slop in his two-turns debut, while flattering the form of stablemate Devil Water in the process. Both will look to move forward to races like the Nashua, the DED Jackpot and the Remsen, where big money will be on the table without having to face the top talent in the BC Juvenile and with experience going long, those are very plausible for all of the top three finishers.

Congratulations goes out to owner Mb Stables and their two-year-old colt Good Authority, a lasting winner of the FL Sire Stakes-In Reality at GP!
