Good Field for The Wilshire Stakes

                       The Wilshire Stakes – GIII
                           SA Race 1 1M – Turf
                              Purse $100.000
Three Year Olds and Up Fillies and Mares

A field of ten has been assembled for this filly and mare turf event on the west coast here at SA. It is a decent field but definitely not one of the toughest grade threes I have ever seen there is a lot of horse coming from low level allowances and claimers. Let’s take a look at the field that has been assembled.

1. Ask For More (18-11-5-0 $139.490), trained by Allinthegate

Here is a mare that is an absolute winning machine. She has won eleven of her eighteen career starts and has ran second another five times. She has been out of the money twice and those were both fourth place finishes. If she can translate all those races to this one she is going to definitely be tough.

2. II Laffin Fabro (11-7-1-1 $171.060), trained by Rheingold Stables

Another filly who is very consistent she has ran in the top three nine times in her eleven career starts. She is a stakes winner because of he win in a Claiming Crown race in late December. She is also going to be very tough I think looking at her past races and will be there at the end for sure.

3. Minnesotalus (17-5-4-2 $185.820), trained by The Sidley Stud

One of the more accomplished runners in the field here she won a grade three two races back in the Frankel at SA. She didn’t run too hot last time in the Santa Ana where she got beat five lengths but this is a drop in class from the start. She wouldn’t totally shock me if she ended up winning.

4. Walklikemydad (17-4-7-2 $137.930), trained by Flamingg Moe

Another stakes winner and multiple stakes placed filly right here. Last out she ran third in a stakes race at CD by a neck but that was going five furlongs. She has won a stakes race going long also and that was last year at SA. She can definitely have a chance to win if she runs a really big race.

5. Angies Copperhead (16-4-5-3 $165.100), trained by Lions Racing

Just a claim three races back for twelve dollars and fifty cents she has come back to run second in two allowance races at SA. One was on the dirt and the other was on the downhill turf course. She has only run once on the turf in her career and that was a second so not sure how she will do.

6. Sovereign Nation (28-6-4-7 $123.360), trained by Paradise Stable

Another stakes winner in the field right here as she won the Lilly Stakes as HOU on a yielding turf course in February. Her next start was in a statebred stakes at SA where she dropped too far back and left herself to much to do. She’s a deep closer so a fast pace will benefit here a whole lot.

7. Simeronlagas (7-1-1-0 $18.600), trained by Lagastable

Pretty much a no way in the world winner here. She has been crushed in her last two by way lesser fields and has only won once on a soft turf course so it will have to down pour for her to even have a chance to win. This entry is basically a wasted entry fee because I think there is no way in the world she wins.

8. Burning Embers (11-3-4-1 $117.200), trained by Fractious

Here is another stakes winner in the field and she has also been graded stakes placed before. She won a stake at GP this February going seven and a half furlongs. She ran third last time in a graded stakes and that was a very good effort. I think she has a chance if she runs a big race like her stakes win.

9. Aim High Train Hard (5-3-0-1 $113.750), trained Glorify Stables

This is a very lightly traced filly and she only has five career starts but she has already won a graded stakes in her last out. That stakes win was over this course and distance so we know she likes the track. I think if she runs that same exact race she will be very tough to beat and she is my top pick.

10. Born From Mrs Z (13-3-3-3 $350.490), trained by Mb Stables

The class of the field here she is multiple grade one placed and is a stakes winner also. She didn’t run too great last time in an allowance race at TUP which she probably should have won. But if she comes back to some of those grade one in the money finishes she can definitely win this race.

Summary

A very good field is lining up here with some stakes winners and graded stakes winners in here. It looks like Aim High Train Hard and Born From Mrs Z look to be the toughest two to beat. I will go with Aim High Train Hard as my top pick and then go with Born From Mrs Z. Good luck to all in the race.
