4+ 122 Lbs 7 Furlongs

Track Record-1:20.69 (Point Break-2005)

Stakes Record-1:20.96 (Gran Z-2022)

Gran Z established a new stakes record in Saturday’s renewal of the G1 CD as he blazed 7-furlongs on the main track in an eye-popping 1:20.96.  The G1 CD is the 9th win of Gran Z‘s 33-race career, and the Maxmillion Farm-trainee has now earned $2,819.500.

Gran Z broke sharply and positioned himself in the middle of a three-horse 2nd flight as Street Edge was allowed to dictate the tempo on his own terms.  Gran Z was just a little over a length off of the :22.84 opening quarter set by Street Edge as the field reached the midpoint of the backstretch.  Street Edge maintained his cushion as he completed an opening half-mile in :45.66 with Aerialist and Gran Z racing in a joint 2nd as they rounded the bend.

Street Edge was in the two-path as he entered the stretch, Aerialist moved to rail to try an inside move as Gran Z shifted-out a path to attack from the leader’s outside.  In a stretch-long battle, Street Edge proved dead game as he refused to yield to an all-out Gran Z and Aerialist as they attacked from either side and Ukrainian Victory looked to thread the needle inside the sixteenth pole.  Gran Z finally wore down the leader in the last 25 yards and posted a neck victory over Street Edge.  It was another half-length back to Aerialist in third as he held off Ukrainian Victory for the show honors.  The latter was a length clear of Shifu Tan who was followed by Machine Gun Tommy, Sweet Sweet Sweet, Charleys Latte, Caught Up In You, Etf Funds, Its A Laugher, and Crimson Sun to complete the order of finish.

Congratulations to Gran Z and Maxmillion Farm on their stakes record victory in the G1 CD
