Grand Cyclone Blows Too Hard for Them in The Sugar Swirl

The Sugar Swirl – Grade III
6 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $100.000 Filly & Mare 3 Year Olds And Up.

1st     Grand Cyclone        Smokey Stover       Bravo J

I thought this mare would win but i was a little surprised by the manner in which she did. She had made the running in six of her last seven and would have made it seven without being drawn impossibly wide in the BC Fillies and Mares Sprint last time. However, either Smokey Stover changed the tactics or the race engine did and i suspect it was the latter as she went back past midfield early on only to power past late. This good win may have delayed a life of servitude in the paddocks just a bit longer and she looks to have plenty more miles on the clock.

2nd     Silk Of Serena       Chubby Racing        Zayas E J

The three year olds may be catching up a little but it looks like they aren’t there yet as this filly could not match her superior rival even with the age allowance. Shooting for four on the bounce she kept going right to the line and with this being her biggest test to date i think we can give her a pass mark.

3rd=      Ms Joyce      RNP Stables         Lopez P

This consistent sort doesn’t know how to run a bad race so the 50/1 odds didn’t bother her as she rattled home for a share of third. I always like the ones who will go on both surfaces which does seem to be most of them but she will have plenty of options open to her as a four year old and i think there is better to come.

3rd=     Power Slide    Power Racing    Smith M E

Ran a super race for one so inexperienced and running from a terrible draw, This one was the black booker for me and i will be looking for her in the fillies sprints next year.
