Day Mile Stakes – Grade II
CD Race #1 1m Dirt Stake
Purse $500.000 For Three Year Olds.
Well i am very happy that i am not trying to write about today’s KYD but instead have 3 races on the support card to review. This one which was billed as the KYD for those that didn’t make it so it was quite fitting that one that didn’t make it did in fact win it. Here’s how they finished in a heap with just 4 lengths covering all the little clones.
1st Grandstand Jockey Night Rider Stables Zayas E J
I think we can safely say it was the draw that robbed this one of its place in the KYD but to be honest it was probably better off in this race rather than the debacle that was going to come later. Third in the BC Turf Sprint as a juvenile you wouldn’t imagine that a few months later he would be close to making the KYD field but here at HRP distance and surface mean very little once you have the class gene in your coding. Today the former sprinter ran like a true router coming from off an even pace to win by a half length. If you take the BG Stakes out of his form thanks to the draw he would have a decent record and as the three year olds gain the advantage i would expect him to be a real contender in the BC Dirt Mile.
2nd Socrates Mb Stables Court J K
Another KYD failure he stalked the pace and looked like he may go on and win but just could not quicken when the winner came at him. Another solid effort shows that whilst he is not a flashy one on the gallops he does have a big racing heart.
3rd Russian Capo Aer Stables Bridgmohan S X
Only beaten a half length into third this was a big effort from the gelding who had failed so badly in the San Felipe. Time will tell just how far he can go from here.
4th Lord Of Peace Fractious Van Dyke D
With the great draw and some solid form leading into this i was a little disappointed when he just whacked away. I think the mile may have been a bit sharp for him in this grade and he may well improve for a few more furlongs.
