The Carter Handicap – GI (P5)
4/6/19
AQU Race 4 7F – Dirt
Purse $400.000
Four Year Olds and Up
A field of eight quality older sprinters are lining up for this years running of the grade one Carter Handicap here at Aqueduct Racetrack. A nice field has been gathered up for this race and there is a lot or chances that could win. Let’s go ahead and take a look at the field.
1. Edwin Drood (31-8-7-2 $3272.080), trained by Night Rider Stables
The first we come across right here is the most accomplished horse and probably the most talented runner in the field. He is a very good horse for sure but all of his big wins have come in route races. He can win but I am just not too sure if he is a good enough sprinter to win this race.
2. Harleys Hope (18-4-5-1 $104.730), trained by TwinTowers Racing
The second horse that we come across is one that has also been routing as of recently. This horse did run second in an optional claiming race at Santa Anita in his last start. He is not a bad horse at all but I do not think that he is a good enough horse to win this race but maybe he will surprise me.
3. Under The Rug (7-3-3-1 $231.380), trained by Mb Stables
The first runner from Mb Stables right here is a very talented horse who is a graded stakes winner. He won the grade two Kennedy Road last year. He hasn’t won since then but he has been hitting the board. If he gets back to his winning ways he will be pretty rough to beat in this spot.
4. Blurred Return (13-3-4-2 $184.200), trained by Spankys Barn
Next runner we come across right here is a horse that has been stakes placed a couple of times but he just cannot seem to break through with a stakes win. His best race was a second in the grade three Mr. Prospector. He runs pretty good at this seven furlong distance but I don’t know if he is good enough to win.
5. Sparrow Hills (9-2-1-3 $81.460), trained by Mb Stables
The other entry from Mb Stables right here is a horse that has not been able to find the winners circle in last five starts. He romped six back but he has only been able to manage two thirds since that race. He usually comes from pretty far back in the field so he will need a quick pace to help him out.
6. Growley (20-6-6-3 $324.350), trained by Greeko Holdem
Probably the horse in the best form right here and he is coming into this race off of a win in the grade three Fool Handicap right here at Aqueduct. He has improved tremendously under Greeko Holdem’s training. If he runs the same race that he did last time he will be very tough to beat.
7. Sonar (23-11-4-2 $752.160), trained by John Henry
The next horse we come across right here is a pretty accomplished runner with two graded stakes win and four overall stakes wins. He kind of dropped off just a tad and did not run too good in his last start. He ran seventh in the Fool Handicap last time so he will need to improve big time to win.
8. Tekkers (23-7-1-5 $614.450), trained by Maxmillion Farm
And the final runner that we come across is the third place finisher from last year’s Breeders Cup Dirt Mile. He also ran in this race last year and finished fifth by a quarter of a length. He might be better at a little farther distance but I think this horse has a decent chance to win.
Summary
A pretty nice field has been assembled for this years Carter Handicap and I think that most of the runners have a decent chance. I think that the runner who wins this race will be moved forward off of the win for the rest of the year. It is a nice field for sure.
