Half Dozen Fillies Head into The Turf Distaff

Weight just may play a factor in this the feature race on the Sunday Card here at TAM, as the two four year olds in this field will get strapped with 123 pounds on their back, making way for the lighter sophomores to steal the show.

  • The Turf Distaff- Purse $110.000
  • For Fillies and Mares Three Years old and Up
  • One Mile and One Sixteenth in Distance- Turf Track
  • Sunday March 29th, 2020

While no mares will take part in Sundays event, two four year olds are hoping that their experience will be able to hold ground against the lighter weighted sophomores. The two runners consist of Graceful American ( Nakamura Stables )from the Number three gate, and from post number six will break Army Flag ( Paradise Stable ).Nakamura Stables has an entry in five of the six stakes on today’s card, so he is definitely trying to close the gap on Mb Stables in the stakes race. Graceful American showed some nice early speed in last seasons My Charmer Hdcp. , but she faded slightly down the lane late. Her most recent OpClm40 event saw her on top at the three quarter mark, only to be passed late and settle for the runner-up position. Hot post time favorite in her last two races shows her class. With Army Flag, she is coming off a three length victory in her most recent OpClm16 race. Her past two events have come at this track, and she was post time favorite in both of those events, so the betting public loves her here. Her 91 SRF coming out of her last is only beaten by one runner in this event. Worth considering.

As far as the three year olds, I will try to list them from my first pick to my fourth pick. Top honors would have to go to rail runner Czarina ( La Canada Racehorses ) as she had three straight victories heading into her most recent Gr. III Herecomesthebride Stakes over at GP. She only missed by a length in that affair, and she earned herself a 93 SRF rating, the best against this bunch in recent races. Three for four on the grass is also a nice marker. One to beat in my opinion with Centeno aboard.

Next I would have to go with #2 Mb Stables Starbound. While he is not getting Centeno as he did in the early boys affair, this one has produced back to back victories heading into this race. Broke her maiden to close out last season then opened with an Alw22.5 event, both coming over this track. Horse’s love for a footing can sometimes tell the story at the wire, and the 115 pounds should also help.

Another two time winner coming into this event will be #5 Kiwi Sunshine from Smokey Stover. While she has only three career starts and both her wins came at shorter sprint affairs, she was showing her speed late in both those events. While her SRF numbers were only 81 and 80, if you scroll to the far right and look at her HRP Speed figures, you will see numbers of 95 and 97, some very quick times indeed. She did have Centeno aboard for both her victories, but this horse has the talent that can bring home a victory with any rider on her back.

Last of the three year olds would be Loch Awe ( The Sidley Stud ) from post number four. She has had three fourth place finishes in recent events, and this will be her first return to the grass since a runner-up effort in last seasons $75.000 Our Dear Peggy. Hopefully the turf will get her back on track to better placements, and that she doesn’t use a upfront running style here leaving her little in the tank to finish down the lane.
