Have “No Fear”, Wonder Where is Here!

I kind of miss the old Underdog cartoon, but Mb Stables No Fear didn’t miss making it to the winners enclosure here at Woodbine on Saturday in the feature event. This was that three year old fillies first stakes title and second win of the season.

  • Wonder Where Stakes – Purse $225.000
  • Woodbine Race Track- For Fillies Three Years old, Foaled in Canada
  • One Mile and a Quarter- Turf track

After it took six tries at breaking her maiden with a few close efforts, No Fear is finally responding for her trainer in a big way taking this seasons $225 Wonder Where. She performed quite well here back in mid April going runner-up to Mill Wheel, who has tried twice with no return success at this oval. The switch back to the turf two starts ago seems to have sparked a light in No Fear, and her performance in the RGD Stakes at DEL could only be judged on the fact it was a good turf surface that day. Her career earnings have now jumped pass the $200 mark and we will wait and see if she is sticking around to compete in the ONT Damsel Stakes next month.

Placing in second on the tote was Smokey Stover’s Holualoa who fought it out brilliantly with the eventual winner right to the wire. Her trainer definitely learned alot from her efforts in the Gr. I BEL Oaks in July, and maybe an event like the Gr. III Noble Damsel Hdcp. would give her a bit of a weight allowance going a mile, a distance I feel is perfect for her.

Rounding out the triple would be Team 7 Illusions Stay Weird who went off at 19-1 odds with the money being split between the top two. Was definitely left too far out to mount any kind of decent charge in the late going, and she will need to find a level soon to start taking home the top prizes. Her entry mate Zasy has been showing some earlier speed since coming over from her previous trainer, and maybe she could benefit from her running style back in February at TUP. Has been out of touch with purse money since the removal of the shadow roll and it may be time to review that equipment once again.

Surprisingly Chili King Stables Island Breeze was a bit of a disappointment as the 3-2 post time favorite. The addition of Lasix for this event seems to have not agreed with her come race day, or she is still not settled at her new digs. Either way, her trainer has the talent to get her straighten around in the future, or she may find herself down the road to the next stables.
