My odds were close, my selections in The Prioress (GII)… not so much.  When the dust cleared in this one, it was a full-field dash to the finish as only two lengths covered them all, and Hawkes Bay, owned by Smokey Stover, came away with the half length victory.  She covered the six panels in 1:09.37 on the fast main track, here at SAR.  Chatta Code took the runner-up spot, a quarter length in front of long-shot Scary Ghost, then the same to Change For A Twenty in the fourth spot. 

Hawkes Bay is a 3yo bay filly by Falling Angel – Peppermint Miss, by Peppermint Moon, and she was bred by her owner, Smokey Stover, in Cal.  That’s her fourth win of the year, three in a row and she has six lifetime wins from fifteen starts, showing $303.650 in earnings.  Congrats to the Connections!

Hawkes Bay trailed to the top of the lane while using a ground saving trip, cut the corner, closed from the inside to engage the leader at the sixteen pole, shook clear late.  Chatta Code contested pace to the final sixteenth, headed, out-finished.  Scary Ghost contested pace to the final sixteenth, out-kicked.  Change For A Twenty raced mid-pack 2p, moved to 3p for the drive, evenly.  Lailoni sat just behind the pace moving forward into the lane, leveled off.  Spearmint Rhino wide trip, no threat.
