Hieratic Looks for Wire in Hendrie Stakes

Hendrie Stakes Grade III

For Filly & Mare 4 Year Olds And Up

Going 6 ½ Furlongs on the Dirt Course

Purse $150.000

1              Natural Beauty                                                 Owned by Ekli Stable                                     Campbell J M

Recently ran in the Grade I Vinery Madison where she had the lead through the first half mile. Faded in second half to finish sixth by 3. Prior to that she looked good posting a 93 speed figure going 7 furlongs against Open Company in Allowance class at GP. Four back had another Allowance win at GP. A drop in class here is exactly what this 5 year old mare needs. Shortening up a half furlong, will help some too.

2              Hieratic                                                                Owned by Night Rider Stable                     Wilson E J

Comes out of the same race as Natural Beauty. She fared much better in the Vinery Madison Grade I finishing second by a half-length. Her two starts prior to that were both against CA Breds Stakes Company at SA over the turf but at today’s distance. In December she ran in the Grade III Sugar Swirl at GP where she was second by a length. Step down today should also help this filly.

3              Mississippi Darkness                                     Owned by Eastern Equine                           Husbands P

In April she ran in the Sugar Maple at CT going 7 furlongs on the dirt course. She rallied off the pace to finish 3rd by a length. Prior to that she hadn’t raced in about 7 months. Her prior start was at CT in the CT Oaks a Grade III event going 7 furlongs. In that race she fared to be fourth by four lengths. Her last race was a layoff, and owner Eastern Equine is hoping she is much better with the second race off the layoff. Tougher competition than the Sugar Maple here today. Tough spot for this filly.

4              Zevia                                                                     Owned by Tirstar Stables                             Garcia Alan

Just missed in February at GP in the Grade III Rampart to finish fourth by a length. Prior to that she ran in 2014 at CD in an Optional Claimer $62.500 Non Winners of 3 races where she won by a neck. Both of these races were at a mile. This mare is getting a breather by cutting back to 6 ½ furlongs. I think this will definitely improve her overall performance. Even though 4 out of 5 career wins are at route distance. She did have some success at AP in June of last year winning an allowance going 6 furlongs. Exotic play here!

5              T S Devil                                                               Owned by Triple K                                          Da Silva E R

Comes off a win last month at GP in an Optional Claimer $100.000 Non Winners of 4 races going 6 furlongs. Prior to that she ran in the Grade III Hurricane Bertie at GP at today’s distance and came up short to finish fourth with Paco Lopez aboard. Looks like a tough spot for her with that disappointing loss in the Hurricane Bertie. Her win in April might be showing she is ready.

6              Smoocher                                                           Owned by Mb Stables                                   Boulanger G

Comes in here after two consecutive wins in 2015. First win was against not much competition at PM in a $7.500 Allowance. After an almost 3 month layoff she came back to race at SA against Allowance Company $65.000 Purse. Here she showed up well and went wire to wire to win by a half-length. Her speed figure was 96 that day. Looks like she is the real deal, but there are some tough company that this 4 year old will have to face.

Iwin picks: 2/1/6

The Tout picks: 2/5/1
