Hollywood Babe Takes on the Boys in BC Turf Sprint

BC Turf Sprint

Grade 1 – $1,000.000

KEE – 5 1/2 Furlongs – Turf

For Three Year Olds and Upward

November 5, 2022

Is she unbeatable? Well, Hollywood Babe has been beaten twice in her career, so you’d have to say no. But one loss came in her debut and the other when she tried to stretch out to a mile and a sixteenth. She looks phenomenal, coming in as she does on a five-race winning streak. Can she make it six? A talented mix of male and female sprinters will try to stop her. Creepy Rocky Party looks up to the task with back-to-back graded wins and 100 SRF numbers. Training Wheels, another three-year-old proved he could beat older in the Woodford. Then there’s the old man, Roman Rage, who at eight shows no signs of slowing down. Won the Jaipur and the Troy and scored 101 SRFs in each. There’s something for everyone in the BC Turf Sprint. Let’s look at the field:

1 Elijah G (Mb Stables) Just one graded win for this four-year-old gelding, but he’s been close several times recently, including second place finishes in the Woodford, the KD Turf Sprint and the Highlander Stakes, all Grade 2s. That’s enough to get him some attention. Wouldn’t count him out.

2 Sniper (Avenue Z) Ungelded six-year-old hasn’t had much luck in graded company since he won the Hernandez Stakes (Grade 2) back in January. Looks a bit outclasses in this field.

3 Danube (Wood Duck Stables) Won the Eddie D Stakes (Grade 2) in October, coming from dead last which seems to be his preferred running style. Look for him to be running late, but it will take a big effort to get to the wire in this one.

4 Cherokee Devil (Maxmillion Farm) Won the Connaught Cup Stakes (Grade 2) in July and made a good showing of himself in a second-place effort in the Eddie D last out. Will need a good trip and some racing luck.

5 Data Overload (Mb Stables) One of four females in the field. Won the Royal North Stakes (Grade 2) back in June. Only hit the board once in three tries since then, that coming in the KD Ladies Sprint (Grade 3) where she finished third. Will need to bring her A game to compete here.

6 Cassandra G (Angelos Stable) Won the Caress (Grade 3) in July, then finished seventh in her next start in the KD Ladies Sprint (Grade 3). Could contest the early lead but remains to be seen if she can hold on to the wire.

7 Training Wheels (Gdp Inc) Four wins in seven starts this year, including a victory in the Woodford and a dead heat in the Quick Call (Grade 3). One of the strongest three-year-olds in the field and he showed he could beat older horses in the Woodford last out.

8 Hollywood Babe (Maxmillion Farm) Riding high on a five-race winning streak that includes victories in two graded stakes, the Buffalo Trace Franklin County (Grade 3) and the KD Ladies Sprint (Grade 3). This one could upset the boys and make it six in a row.

9 Roman Rage (Gdp Inc) Two graded wins for this eight-year-old gelding. Won the Jaipur (Grade 1) in June and followed it up with a victory in the Troy (Grade 3) in August. Couldn’t get it done in the WO Mile, but now that’s he’s back sprinting, he will be tough and could get a piece of the purse.

10 The Grandmaster (John Henry) His resume doesn’t look as strong as some in this field. Won the Shaker (Grade 2) in April here at KEE but hasn’t done much since. Best performance since that win was a third in the Dayton (Grade 3) where he lost by a head. Has already lost to a couple in this field. Might not have what it takes to get the job done.

11 Shelbags (Lindeman Prairie) Won the Highlander Stakes (Grade 2), but couldn’t hit the board in his next two graded efforts. Will need a big effort against these.

12 Last City (Lemax Farms) Won the Green Flash Handicap (Grade 3) and a chance to compete here. His only other win this year came in optional claiming company. Might be a little outclassed here.

13 Creepy Rocky Party (Mb Stables) Back-to-back Grade 2 wins for this three-year-old gelding. Won the Simpson Stakes in September, then took the Nearctic in October. Should have a say in the outcome, and a win wouldn’t be a surprise.

14 Sweetness (High Voltage) Won the Monrovia Stakes (Grade 2) in April, but not much else to recommend her unless you look back at her win in the $150.000 SSM F/M Turf Sprint in January. Will have her work cut out for her against these.

Picks: 7-13-8
