Home Spirit Blows Up the Tote and the Field in The Pegasus World Cup Win

1/28/23

12   GP   The Pegasus World Cup (GI)

     $3,000.000      4yo&Up      1 1/8m     Dirt        124lbs

It was quite a day in SoFla… quite a day.  The winner was 99/1 and paid $373.70 to place, the third favorite was last only beaten five lengths, and we had a dead heat (for ninth).  Night Rider Stables’ Home Spirit has matched his ’22 win total (one) and banked the lion’s share of the $3,000.000 purse, winning The Pegasus World Cup (GI) by a quarter length, stopping the clock at 1:47.40 while shocking us all.  It was a huge closing effort by the winner, splitting foes late, and that got the job done.  Ags Cherokee was also somewhat overlooked, sent off at 14/1 odds, securing the second sport by a quarter length over post time favorite Mr. Pancake in third.  It was another three-quarters of a length to Sensei in fourth while ’22 HofY Individuation ended up fifth.
