Saturday’s G2 Day Mile went to Hot Dog from South Shore Stable.  The G2 Day Mile was the 5th win in the 13-race career of the Proud Chai gelding who has now amassed $545.560 in earnings.  Completing the flat mile over the CD main track in 1:34.92, Hot Dog was a length in front of longtime leader Rogue Commando at the finish.

Hot Dog broke well from stall 10 and utilized his early speed to maneuver to the two-path from the 2nd flight early as Rogue Commando went about setting the tempo.  The pace was hot as Rogue Commando was pushed through an opening quarter in a snappy :22.14.  Speightstown was on the leader’s inside just three-quarters of a length behind as Hot Dog settled into 6th about four lengths off of the leader.

Rogue Commando was able to clear Speightstown just before he posted a :44.84 opening half-mile.  Hot Dog held his positioning and settled into a good rhythm under T. Gaffalione.  Rogue Commando was able to increase his advantage throughout the turn; however, Hot Dog moved out into the four-path and started accelerating just before he came out of the turn.

At the top of the lane Rogue Commando was three lengths clear of Speightstown, but Hot Dog had moved to third and he looked to be full of run as the leader posted a blistering six furlong split of 1:08.83.  Hot Dog had clear sailing, a target four lengths in front of him, and a furlong to change his fortunes.  As the field started to bunch-up behind Rogue Commando, it was clear that two horses were traveling better than the rest as Hot Dog was flying down the crown of the stretch and Blamethespeedparty was making a menacing run up the rail.

Hot Dog made the lead just outside the sixteenth pole and steadily increased his advantage on Rogue Commando.  Blamethespeedparty was making-up ground on the former leader and was two lengths back with 110-yards to go.  Hot Dog continued strongly through the wire to post a winning margin of a length as he completed his journey in 1:34.92.  Rogue Commando continued on bravely and saved the place from a hard-charging Blamethespeedparty and Neoconservative.  The latter was followed by Tiz Chai, Speightstown, Bladamiro, Custom Continental, Uranus, Puissance de La Mer, and Valvano.

Congratulations to Hot Dog and South Shore Stables on their victory in the 2022 G2 Day Mile at CD!
