Opening day of the KEE Spring Meet… you know what’s better? not. a. damned. thing!! My favorite place on Earth, my final resting place… it’s everything to me… pure love. The gate is full of sophomore fillies set to go a mile and a sixteenth around the beautiful main track here in Lexington, and we look at the field for the Ashland (GI).
**UPDATE** We are Sloppy/Soft here at KEE, so make your wagers accordingly. Two scratches (1/3) but they were not involved in our picks, so no need to make any changes, according to the Green Card. Interesting to note that the LEX farm is Fast/Firm and RL KEE is Fast/Good.
We are relying on the Green Card to get this one right, and he says Purple Charger is the one, today. She’s been second in three of her last four races, won the Alcibiades (GI) over this track back in Oct, so I can see the upside in this one.
Right next door, Devine Moonlight is the second choice… a solid third in the Honeybee (GIII) at OP after doing the heavy lifting in that one, second start for the juggernaut of an outfit, she was a $600.000 purchase before that race, and won the Starlet (GII) for the prior owner… she has class and speed, which can be a deadly combo.
It’s hard to look at this race and not have an Mb Stables entrant mentioned, and Aghast gets the third spot… two wins from her last three starts including a very impressive win in the Santa Ysabel (GIII) on a muddy main at SA. She is another with wicked speed, so this could get interesting.
