It was an Mb Stables one-two finish in the San Diego Hcp (GII) as In Captivity took the win by three-quarters of a length over stable-mate and post-time favorite Twilight Flame.  The final running time was 1:40.71 for the mile and a sixteenth over a DMR main track labeled fast.  Long-shot Class Edge closed a late gap to grab the third spot, as early pace-setter Jumbo Bite tired a bit to be fourth.  My expected fireworks fizzled out as this one pretty much ran to the script.

In Captivity is a 7yo gelded son of Square Edge – Pacific Belle, by Blackgood, and was bred by his owner, Mb Stables, in Fla.  This was his eighth win from forty starts, his second seasonal victory, and the old boy is obviously running lights-out right now as he was fourth in this race last year… only getting better with age.  Congrats to the connections!

In Captivity tracked the early pace, moved up quickly to take over into the lane, kept to task, won driving.  Twilight Flame never far from the pace, engaged stable-mate in the lane, could not get past in a game effort, settled.  Class Edge rated back, good late effort, best foot too late.  Jumbo Blue sent from the gate, lead to the lane, headed, tired.  Akkadian gave an even effort.  A Storm Has Arrived up close for a half, tired.  Soul Reaver was outrun, deactivated after the race.  Bellamango was outrun.
