In The FL Sire Series – Susan Is a Vixen Rematch

The FL Sire Stakes- Susan ($200.000 Purse)
GP- For Fillies Two Years Old Foaled in FL
Seven Furlongs on the Dirt
August 29, 2020

The FL Sire Stakes always gives us plenty of excitement, since there are many talented horses that get bred in the state in search of collecting the high purses that are associated with its statebred stakes, especially for two year olds. The Susan is a seven furlong race on the main track that gives us an early glimpse into what the state has to offer. Last year, Our Athletes picked up the win with Vegas Show Hen, a filly that ran in several graded stakes afterwards but has not hit the board in any of them. Perhaps, there is still time. We’ll have a field of seven in this race, and here they are.

#1- Champagne D Oro (Fractious, ridden by H I Berrios)- The trainer is convinced there is reason to be excited about this one. The rest of us are still in wait and see mode, as after winning her debut, she has been up the track, running four lengths from the front in eighth and ninth place finishes.

#2- Stick Together (Mb Stables, ridden by M A Vasquez)- Mb Stables has two wins in this stake, and if he makes it three, it will probably be with his other horse. Regardless, Stick Together comes into the race after breaking her maiden earlier in the month at BTP.

#3- Lannys All In (South Beach Racing, ridden by Sa Camacho)- This race is a rematch of the Vixen for four of our runners, including Lannys All In, who was fifth in the race. In it, she was at her best in the stretch, so going an extra furlong here is something that should benefit her. She has only raced in FL-bred races so far.

#4- Tiny Dancer (Threshold, ridden by E S Prado)- Picked up in private sales for $40.000 in the middle of June, and would be given a chance to run in the Grade 3 Sanford in her debut with Threshold. She did not beat anybody in a generally flat run. A recent work time does not generate optimism that today will be much better.

#5- Illusive Motives (Smokey Stover, ridden by J Rendon)- Won in the mud here back in May, and off of that, she would be sent to the Vixen. Illusive Motives had a good trip in the race, and got up to be second, to the race winner, Take On Me, a horse that she seemed to run with for much of the Vixen. Will another furlong change the outlook between them?

#6- Liza Doolittle Day (Arindel, ridden by A Jimenez)- She was also seen in the Vixen, and would finish third, but was two lengths between the top two, who are starting on each side of her here. For this filly, she was one of the pacesetters, so being caught by those two, who were behind, with less ground than will be covered here is certainly worth a mention.

#7- Take On Me (Mb Stables, ridden by E J Zayas)- The trainer has been really good, historically, in the FL Sire Stakes, but then again he is good in anything. Take On Me was the winner of the Vixen here last month, a win that was the second of her career. A showdown again with Illusive Motives here again will be entertaining for this filly who has only raced against FL-breds thus far.

Prediction: 5-7-3-6
