Influence Seeker Edges Edgewood

Edgewood – Grade II

1 1/16 Mile Turf Stake Purse $600.00 Filly 3 Year Olds.

1st        Influence Seeker         Mb Stables      Lopez P                            1:40.21

Well, I said she was inconsistent but maybe a better description would be that she is consistently inconsistent because her record this year so far is either win or finish ninth! Today we saw the best of her again as she found the front but had a fight on her hands as the gate opened. She never established a clear lead, but she was where she likes to be and that was enough as she dug deep in game fashion to win by a half-length. She has now won big races in all three grades and looks to have a bright future in the hands of the champion trainer as she heads towards the big money turf races.

2nd =   Shot Of Summer         Diablo Diablo                Ortiz J L              1:40.31

Well not a week goes by without a dead heat and todays share of a place went to this filly who finished like a train to grab a share of second. She did the same in the FL Oaks where she went down narrowly to the same winner and in the Natalma last year, in fact the only time she has beaten Influence Seeker was when fifth in the Appalachian last time out. The day will probably come when the race engine aligns for this one but once again it wasn’t today.

2nd =   Savvy Instinct               Mb Stables      Gutierrez Mario            1:40.31

Yet another 1, 2 for the champion trainer in a big-ticket stakes race as this lightly raced filly that did her stable mate no favours by fighting her for the front the whole time managed a share of second. This was a great effort in only her fourth race and she looks to have a very bright future.

4th        Valley Center Nakamura Stables     Bejarano R                      1:40.49

Raced behind the speed and kept on nicely for fourth in only her second turf race. It looks like she is one of the many that can race on turf or dirt as if it is the same surface which is a nice one to have with so many nice prizes available to fillies. This effort may be as good if not better than her Suncoast win and I think she may be the type that cam sprint or route too giving the owner plenty of options in the months ahead.
