The Lake Placid – Grade II
SAR Race #6 1 1/16m InTurf Graded Stake
Purse $200.000 For Fillies Three Years Old.
1 Chances Are Mb Stables Lezcano J
When she won her maiden by eight lengths in a 1.33 and 2 mile as a two year old it was obvious she was well above average and she finished that juvenile season with a graded stakes place and a stakes win setting her up nicely for a three year old campaign. She won her first start in the Sweetest Chant and then took a minor paycheck in her next four all at graded level before a tilt at the BEL Oaks. She stalked the lead that day but was very disappointing through the second part of the race ending up a well beaten eleventh. That run of course must be considered but it was at the highest level and she is back to a grade two now and i feel that is much more her level. She gets a great draw to run her race from today and she should certainly be up there at the end.
2 Versailles D J C Racing Stables Vargas J A Jr
Working like a champ running like a chump, it is a problem plenty of trainers go through but sometimes with these types its just about finding the perfect scenario before they shine. She has certainly run better than her bare form suggests recently and she does get the draw today of ever she is going to confirm the promise she has shown in her works.
3 Summers Day First Street Stables Pennington F
There was a time that drawing Pennington in a turf race pretty much guaranteed a win but these days he seems to have gone off the turf a little. Still a good one to have on board though and he picks up the ride on this progressive filly who was a gutsy winner of the Lake George last time. She broke her maiden at the start of the year and has moved nicely through her improvement curve leading up to her win last time and i feel there is plenty more improvement in her. I like how she has been brought along and she could well be one to take out the race.
4 Buckingham Palace Smokey Stover Alvarado J
She had been real consistent leading up to a tilt at the BEL Oaks last time and you couldn’t blame her trainer at having a go at the grade one after some nice form and good work times. It proved too much too soon for her though as she missed the break and got buried at the back from what looked like the perfect draw. That run was an odd effort and really didn’t sit well with the rest of her form so i will put it down to a bad start pr a poor tactical decision and give her another chance today.
5 Silver Cobra Arindel Franco M
Another that ran and disappointed in the BEL Oaks she had the excuse of a terrible draw though so the run is easy to forgive. She had won the Gallorette previous to that though in her first ever start on turf so i suspect that we may be seeing an emerging filly on this surface. A much better draw today and she may be the one with the most upside that came out of the BEL Oaks.
6 Rose Petals Mb Stables Garcia Mar
The second runner from the stable and although she ran a nice race to make all and win the Cincinnatian last time i am not sure that form is good enough to see her winning today. The fact that she went to the front that day suggests she may do the same today and that may be useful for the trainer to set up their other runner. Having said that the on speed engine we have at the moment may just see her make all and win so beware.
7 Hint Of Rubicon Arindel Baird E T
The wide gate goes to the second Arindel runner and whilst she hasn’t got a great win record she is a consistent sort who should be in the race. Her works are strong but her results do not reflect that so like Versailles the trainer will have to find that magic combination that allows her to run her best.
SUMMARY
A tough race to call, like most are, i think rather than going to the obvious stables of Mb and Arindel i am going to risk my Disney Dollars on Summers Day. She looks the type that may be improving the most, Silver Cobra would be my next choice. Chances Are will be the next to box up for the trifecta as she should take advantage of her stable companion being in the same race and having the draw to run the perfect stalk.
