Seaway Stakes Brings Together Two Claims That Could Take Glory

Seaway Stakes – Grade III
WO Race #4 7f Dirt Graded Stake
Purse $150.000 For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward.

1        Full Harvest Moon       Tiratzo         Contreras L

Five starts and not once out of the money is a pretty good start and today this three year old gets her chance to take another step as she contests her first graded stakes. A gutsy winner of the Stonehedge Sophomore Fillies last time she looks like she is moving nicely up an improvement curve but this is a big step up especially as three year olds have found the older fillies and mares tough competition this year. Drawn well she will get every chance.

2       Five Star Queen      Angelos Stable        Lermyte J

She was taking her fifth win in a row when victorious in the Las Flores Stakes and was looking like a real prospect before she took on the grade one Derby City Distaff in early May. That race proved to be too much too soon for her as she trailed in a well beaten eleventh and though she took a big ticket allowance next time she has again failed at graded level since. I guess the big question for her is where he ceiling is, she looked like a graded runner early in the year but has since slipped as the opposition has got stronger suggesting she may have plateaued a little. She gets her chance back at a level she has won at before and gets a great draw as well so she should be competitive even if she may have too much to find with Dancinginflorida on their Distaff placings.

3     Dancinginflorida        Night Rider Stables      Wilson E J

Another fantastic claim from the stable she looks on all known form like the one to beat. Her last two starts from really tough draws have been exceptional, a close fourth in the Derby City Distaff and then a great second in the Princess Rooney last time both over this trip suggest she just has to run up to that to win.

4      Niagra Sunset         Fractious           Boulanger G

Another that was recently claimed she has been working stakes winning work times without as yet competing at that level. The trainer certainly knows how to get the best out of a runner and if she can run like her work times she may be the biggest danger to the form horse.

5        Silver Jazzmin         The Sidley Stud          Kimura K

The trainer is a great placer of their horses and they have placed this one very nicely to win eight of her twenty one starts. Her form looks very good in a race like this but i am a little wary about this trip for her. A nice winner of the Desert Stormer at grade three the time before last she was found out from a wide draw last time in the Great Lady M Stakes and a lot may depend on where she ends up in transit from todays draw. On speed and i feel she wont get home but with some cover she is certainly good enough.

6        Fair On Friday        Gdp Inc       Stein J

I always like a five year old when they are the oldest in the race and this mare has got the form figures to win this if the wide gate is kind to her. A great second in the Santa Maria Stakes and a reasonable effort in the grade one Hirsch Stakes last time put her in great form and i guess the only question about a winning chance today may be the seven furlongs. She has only raced once at less than a mile so that would ask some questions but the way HRP works is she will out pace them all, go clear and hold on for a sprinters victory today. It could happen but it also may not so that is the gamble you must take if selecting her.

SUMMARY
An interesting little contest. On form it should be between Dancinginflorida and Silver Jazzmin with Fair on Friday for the trifecta but i see a fly in the ointment in Niagra Sunset and she may well be worth a bet at longer odds.
