It Is Stick the Pin in Time in Chorleywood Stakes

Chorleywood Stakes
CD Race #5 1 3/8m Dirt Stake
Purse $175.000 For Four Year Olds And Upward.

A short field for this nice prize probably due to the penalty system for this ungraded race coupled with a rather steep entry fee scaring away those who may have tried to have a crack at this with an emerging talent.

A good race, nonetheless, here is how they line up:

1 Strategic Ruler Nakamura Stables Saez L 124 —

Carried a 2Lb penalty for an ungraded win last year this is a horse that has always promised but has yet to consistently deliver. A winner of five from only twelve he is still untapped, and he may well be able to defy the penalty here from the inside gate. He faded tamely at the end of the Op Handicap last time but that was a grade two and he was out classed rather than weakening. The trip of course, like all the others will be the important factor but there is no reason he won’t see it out as long as the race engine doesn’t have a baby, like it can on occasion.

2 Southern Chai Party Night Rider Stables Gaffalione T 122 —

Like pretty much every claim this stable makes they have definitely found value placing twice in its last two at allowance level. His works are stakes quality, and he looks like he will appreciate this trip so I would be pretty bullish about his chances.

3 Turn Up The Dial YME Stable Geroux F 122 —

Only four starts for two wins this one could well be the dark horse in the race. Both his wins came over sprint trips and his last race was on turf so he has covered a lot of options in his four starts, but it is certainly a sign of class if they can handle that sort of I and he has done pretty well. I really liked his last track work, and I would be keen to give him a big chance.

4 Malibu Blues D J C Racing Stables Beschizza A 122 —

He has won four races all at the fair level, but it is a sign of the times when a horse with that sort of record is working 1.10 and 2. We see him in a grade now that he probably fits in and despite his last two starts being in sprints, he may well be better at this trip. A difficult read as far as form goes but certainly a chance.

5 Tall Heckler Mo Mentum Farm Murrill M 122 —

On the outside we have the one horse that is proven at this trip and managed a third at grade three level over it. Couple that with a strong allowance win over ten furlongs and I think we probably have the best horse on form for this race. The key of course is the outside draw and what the crazy AI may do but if all goes to plan, I think he may be our winner.

SUMMARY

The safe choice here is Tall Heckler, he has the form over this trip and looks capable of winning at this level but the glaring problem at HRP is all over this race. He is probably the slowest worker……and the fastest workers are all horses that have been winning sprints with the exception of Strategic Ruler. So, there is our next point of form, Strategic Ruler comes out second on that, as for third and the rest well you could box the lot and that is probably the only way of being confident about picking the winner here.
