It Is Tropically Wet in Tropical Turf, but That Doesn’t Stop a Hammerfest

Tropical Turf Stakes – Grade III
1 Mile Inner Turf Stake Purse $100.000 Open 4 Year Olds And Up.

1st    Hammerfest    Smokey Stover      Albarado R J

I had a feeling that this classy five year olds best chance of winning this would be to go the front and use his battling qualities rather than his finish. Sure enough he raced out to a clear lead at halfway and then ground out the finish to come home by a length. This was either a great choice of tactics by the trainer or the race engine doing its thing from the wide gate but whichever it was it was the tactic that won the race. There is no doubting the class of this five year old and when getting a break on any horse he can be hard to haul back as he proved today and he now creeps closer to that magical 2K in prize money a feat he certainly deserves.

2nd        On The Turning Away       Gdp Inc      Gonzalez El

Proving that the older horses will dominate last years three’s just a bit longer this six year old sprinter proved that he can route just as well by running second and taking ground off the winner all the way to the post. He looks the type that we would all like in the barn, versatile and with enough speed and stamina to be a chance in any race he enters.

3rd         Money Truck      Spankys Barn        Leparoux J R

Got a long way back and stormed home for third he ran a good race but looked in dire need of another couple of furlongs.

4th      Chilly Willie       Big Jd Racing       Lanerie C J

Drawn way out in the cheap seats he was pushed up to the stalk but couldn’t contend with the winner. He whacked away for a solid run and considering he was claimed for just $8 two races ago ran a really nice race.
