The Adirondack (Grade 2)- $200.000 Purse
SAR- For Fillies Two Years Old
Six and a Half Furlongs on the Dirt
August 8, 2021
The Adirondack is the second of the big races for the two year old fillies held at SAR, and it will run here for the 17th time. In the past some big names won this race before they were ever big names. Notarized Kate is one of those fillies that ended up winning this race in her past, which was her first graded stake win. Last year’s winner, RMP Stables’ Ms Joyce, has not had a career at that level, but she has been very productive. If you don’t win, it’s not the end of the world, as Princess Jasmine, who ran in all three TC races this year, could only manage a ninth place finish in that race. The filly that finishes in that spot will also be dead last this year, as nine go to the gate. Also, it is good to see that the purse is restored it’s traditional level after being cut by $50.000 in 2020. Let’s take a moment to look at this field!
#1- Keno Queen (Mb Stables, ridden by E Jaramillo)- The Schuylerville will be mentioned a lot in this preview, as the first main graded stake for juvenile fillies at the Spa has four of its runners returning. The right balls did not come up for Keno Queen, however, as she was only eighth that day, a far cry from the form she showed previously in winning the $150.000 Astoria by two lengths. Mb Stables should get that corrected.
#2- Laughing Poet (Maxmillion Farm, ridden by J K Court)- Broke her maiden in her last start, coming at the beginning of last month at WO, in the slop. She earned an 87 SRF in that race. Maxmillion thinks very highly of her, as he purchased her for $120.000 from Axeman prior to that start, and her entry here shows his high hopes.
#3- Rig For Red (TwinTowersRacing, ridden by L Saez)- This filly by Platoon has spent her entire career at CD so far, with one finish in each possible spot on the board. After breaking her maiden, she took part in the $125.000 Debutante, and was a respectable third, being within a length of the winner.
#4- Moment To Dream (Fractious, ridden by V R Carrasco)- A lot has happened to this filly after running third in the Schuylerville earlier in the meet. Prior trainer La Canada Racehorses sold her off, and got $500.000 in the sale, from Fractious, coming six days after that race. Fractious brought her to DMR for a couple works, but it was back on the plane to SAR for this race. The expectations are high, and Fractious hopes to turn dreams with her into reality.
#5- Grandest Lady (La Canada Racehorses, ridden by M Franco)- Right next to the old La Canada filly, we get the current one, so the trainer would certainly enjoy it a little more if his filly won a close photo at the wire with Moment To Dream. Winning is all that Grandest Lady has known so far, winning each of her starts, including right here in the $100.000 Stillwater, which is for NY-breds. She did that the day after he pocketed that $500.000.
#6- Woo Doggie (Jive Inc., ridden by T Gaffalione)- Here’s another filly that is batting 1.000 for her career, and she has done it in three starts. She’s won a couple of smaller ungraded stakes after breaking her maiden, the $45.000 Kendrick Memorial for NM-breds and then the $75.000 Tah Dah. There’s no denying that she has earned the right to run in a race of this stature, but it is her biggest test yet.
#7- Incendiary (Mb Stables, ridden by J R Velazquez)- She might not be perfect, but after finishing second in her debut, she has gone on to win her next three races. Two of them are stakes, but none bigger than beating three of her rivals here in the Grade 3 Schuylerville a few weeks ago. One thing Mb Stables is always good with is two year old fillies, and if Incendiary wins this race, maybe we start talking about her as a BC Juvenile Fillies favorite. Or, we can just relax with that right now.
#8- Have One On Me (Fractious, ridden by D Davis)- Fractious didn’t have to spend any money, other than breeding cost, to get this filly in his stable. While four of her rivals were running in the Schuylerville, Have One On Me was making her debut at WO on the same day. That went well, winning the race, something which is especially encouraging this time of year. Off of that, the trainer aims high. Why not, as after all, it looks like she got a bit of a post race bump, too.
#9- The Nation (Arindel, ridden by Mar Garcia)- This filly has been hitting the stake circuit regularly since winning her debut, but they have not all gone very well. She struggled in the Astoria, but then bounced back to a fourth place finish in the Debutante out at DMR. There was not much time for her to rest, and she didn’t need it, as she was here for the Schuylerville and ran second. I like the improvement that she showed in that race.
Prediction: 7-5-8-4
