It’s Flip-a-Coin for Winner of Alysheba

Alysheba – Grade II
CD   Race #9   1 1/16m   Dirt   Graded Stake
Purse $400.000  For Four Year Olds And Upward.

1  Awesome Indeed   TwinTowersRacing   Albarado R
This four year old has always shown ability but struggles to put that down into a soldi performance on the track. That may have something to do with the fact that he has yet to settle on a consistent preference as far as trip and surface goes having run at just about every distance on both surfaces in his last ten starts. He was a good second in the Hardacre Mile Handicap last time, nicely ahead of West Northwest and has laid down some very fast dirt mile works this year suggesting that this may just be his preference after all this time. Best foot forward he goes very close.

2  Caught Stealing    Sir Daniel Martin    Bejarano R
A half length behind Awesome Indeed in the Hardacre mile last time and he gets a pound back today which gives him just about the same chance as his rival in this race. Its hard to seperate them as they are very similar on most front but whereas Awesome Indeed has been all over the shop this one has been pretty consistent on this surface and around this trip.

3  Clash Study    Smokey Stover    Velazquez J R
If this race was run in October last year he would’ve started a warm favourite but after an impressive win in the PA Derby his season and form fell apart. He hasnt run badly this season and had a confidence boosting win in an allowance last time out so he may still start favourite especially when you look at the sort of times he has been running at work. He has been a little expensive to follow but he may just have too much class for these today.

4  Jason Bourne    Maxmillion Farm    Baze T C
The stable has been in very good form recently and this four year old has been in goof form this year as well as recording a fast mile work of 1.36 and 1. He very nearly beat Bay Of Plenty in the New Orleans Handicap last time going down by a head and wont mind any rain so he may be a good bet over less consistent runners in this race.

5  Devil Six    Maxmillion Farm    Court J K
The second runner in the race and his entry is full of intrigue especially when you consider what he has achieved on turf. Only beaten a length when fourth in the BC Turf Mile he has run on turf in all but one of his starts. Beaten in an optional Claimer over his optimum trip last time his trainer is giving him a  chance on dirt today and if he takes to it it may be an inspired entry.

6  Made To Sin    John Henry    Talamo J
He came back to somewhere near his brilliant best last time when taking the grade three Excelsior but its pretty tough to work out just which Made To Sin we will see today. Brilliant at his best and pretty average at his worst a 1.36 and 1 dirt mile work on the 23rd April suggests he is somewhere near his best and he should be treated with plenty of respect today.

7  Atletico                  Our Athletes    Geroux F
The winner of the grade one Clark Handicap last year that was bar far his best win but he had run some fair races in defeat before that. His seasonal reappearance saw him down the field from a wide draw in the Pegasus World Cup and another wide draw wont help his chances today. He certainly has a chance but he may struggle a little today.

8  West Northwest    Blushing Meadows   Ortiz I Jr
A grand old warrior who may be past his best but is still capable of running a big race. The outside draw means he will probably be closing late and he has shown some great speed doing that it the past. Easy to write off due to his age and the draw but do so at your peril.

SUMMARY
Its a little tough when you write up these races because so many horses at this level work the same and just end up swapping wins with each other. Who wins today is anyones guess and a pin may be the best bet.
