Jakarta Takes on Seven in San Francisco Mile

San Francisco Mile – Grade 3 – $250.000

GG – 1 Mile – Turf

For Three Year Olds And Upward

April 29, 2023

Three sophomores take on older in this mile contest. Jakarta comes in looking strongest of all, but anything can happen when the gates open.

Here’s the field:

1 Jakarta (Nakamura Stables)

Won the Canadian Turf in a dead heat last out and scored a 102 SRF in that effort. Looks like the class of the field.

2 Silver Rocket (Crocker Ggs)

Won the Hernandez Stakes two back at 6 ½ furlongs, then faltered in the Grade 1 Killroe Mile last out, finishing eighth. Seems to be struggling at a distance lately.

3 Fight The Good Fight (TwinTowersRacing)

Has not hit the board since a win in optional claiming company last August. Not much to recommend this one.

4 State General (Mb Stables)

Has had success in ungraded stakes with a win in the ON-bred Lake Ontario Stakes last year. Also has an allowance win this year. Last out in graded company saw him finish well up the track. Will need a top effort here.

5 Qtr Tank Of Gas (Riggins Racing)

Three-year-old taking on older this early in the year is always a bit iffy. This one has been performing well in his last few starts, but this is a tough place to try graded for the first time.

6 Iron With Ransom (Ekli Stable)

Lots of experience for this six-year-old gelding, but he hasn’t had a stakes win since the Red Bank in September. But he’s been burning up the track in allowance company. Seems a bit outclassed here.

7 Cheyenne Lame Foot (Greyfriars Stable)

Another three-year-old taking on older. That and his record since the KD Juvenile seem to indicate he is not ready to take on a field like this.

8 Zakouski One (Smokey Stover)

The third sophomore in this field is also low on experience. A nice gelding making his stakes debut in a really tough spot.
