Jinxed Authority Lights Up the Board in The SAR Special

At the beginning of the meet, Jinxed Authority broke his maiden against NY-breds at five and a half furlongs at 16/1. That didn’t seem to help him get more people to pick him in this one, as he went off as the longest shot on the board, at odds of 38/1. These races always can go any way, and today Jinxed Authority would get it done. It would make his mother proud, as his dam, Jinxed Queen was 2-for-2 lifetime at SAR, including a win in the Personal Ensign, so now Jinxed Authority carries on that family tradition of success at the Spa. He is trained by Smokey Stover, and it will be his first win in the stake. That is also true for jockey E Cancel, so congratulations to them! The race was won in a time of 1:09.67. We can’t compare that to anything, because with one exception, the race has always been run at six and a half. Here’s a look at it!

(¼ Mile- :22.50)- Smokin Luka breaks sharply out of his outside starting gate for Night Rider Stables, and prevails in an initial race to the front against Arindel’s Drive It Chuck. That one stays to his inside as both Accountant, from D J C Racing Stables and Turbocharged, out of Aer Stables, are also quick starters. After two furlongs, it is a three wide battle for the lead between each of them other than Accountant, who backed off by about a length. Moving to his inside would be the Mb Stables trained Abominable. Raunchy Bay (Estero Farms) and Leas Chance (Mb Stables) are next on the rail, with the next in line being our eventual winner, Jinxed Authority from Smokey Stover. He is in the fourth lane at this point moving into the turn, and running just a little more than three lengths back. Afterburner (Fractious) and Burning Red Hooves (TwinTowersRacing) are within a length of him. The trailers are Brave Companion (Nakamura Stables) and Into Pieces (Mb Stables).

(Top Of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- The front four were still looking good, and seemed to be in great shape as they worked around the turn and hit the top of the stretch. It looked like it would be a good bet that one of them would be the winner as they were about two lengths ahead of the next group of four. Smokin Luka and Turbocharged had a head in front here, but Dial It Chuck was hanging with them, and Accountant pulled up to be level with them. Meanwhile, Jinxed Authority was making some gains, advancing in the turn to be four wide of Raunchy Bay, Leas Chance, and Abominable. The others had too much work to do at this point.

(Finish- 1:09.67)- With a furlong to go, it still did not seem like Jinxed Authority was going to pull off the victory as E Cancel had to adjust for the fading Accountant and make what looked like a hard shift over one more lane to keep from running into him. This seemed like it would cost him some valuable time as Smokin Luka continued looking sharp at the front. If one of the group that he had been running with seemed like it was going to get the win here, it looked like Leas Chance, who was moving up and had a clear lane. However, Jinxed Authority just kept plugging away, and the field was getting jam packed together for us to be able to throw the blanket over them. In the end, it’s an impressive looking win for Jinxed Authority by about half a length over a seven-way photo for place. In it, Smokin Luka holds off Dial It Chuck, Leas Chance, Accountant, Turbocharged, Into Pieces and Raunchy Bay. Behind that wall by a length was Brave Companion, Afterburner, and Burning Red Hooves. Only Abominable was a disappointment.

About The Winner- Jinxed Authority, trained by Smokey Stover and ridden to victory by E Cancel, is a two year old colt by Good Authority and is out of Jinxed Queen. He was bred in New York as a second quarter two year old by Smokey Stover, his only trainer so far. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his second in three starts, and the career earnings improve to $136.800.
