The only thing that surprised me about Saturday’s Copper Top Futurity was that Smoke Two Joints only won by a quarter length.  After beating one of the most celebrated 2yo’s leading up to the first races of the ’21 season, winning that maiden race by two lengths, I thought he’d roll here, but a win is a win and the Jive Inc. trained freshman made it two-for-two, getting home in :51³ for the four and a half furlong sprint.  Another great story from this one is that first time starter Another Grey Cell ran second at 25/1 odds, proving that he may be another horse to watch as we go through the ’21 season.  Charmer grabbed the third spot by a length over stable-mate Newton. 

Smoke Two Joints is a bay 2yo gelded son of Marry Me Mandy – High Speed Internet, by Connectivity, and he was bred in his owner Jive Inc., here in NM.  As mentioned, he stays a perfect 2-for-2 and now has earnings of $114.600.  It will be interesting to see where his next start comes, but all eyes will be on him.

Smoke Two Joints broke alertly, set the pace, held, won driving.  Another Grey Cell off with the second flight, rushed up on the turn, gaining late, second best.  Charmer off quickly, chased, tired.  Newton early speed, tired.  Minor Thoughts trialed throughout.
