6 CD The Keertana
$100.000 4yo&Up F&M 1 1/2m Turf 122 lbs +penalties
Six older females will be headed to the gate (maybe) for Saturday’s The Keertana, a marathon mile and a half stakes over the lush Louisville lawn. I say maybe because I have a horse entered an evidently at my advanced age I can’t read and will carry six pounds more than the rest of the field… but, we will get into that later.
I’ll look at Lillehammer to run a big race in this one as her tactical speed may be the differential. She has a series of turf races as she’s been on the board in half of those races. If she can put together the distance and grass, this may be a good place for her.
I don’t like writing races where I have a horse entered, and I’ve certainly made a mess of it… let’s see how it goes.

Two wins from her seven starts and took down OptAlw horses going a mile and a sixteenth on the grass at TAM back in Feb. Followed that up with a nice second place finish at GP in the Sand Springs so she’s shown the ability to run with stakes horses. I think you can throw out that last race as wet grass doesn’t seem to be her cup of tea. If it stays dry, look for her to be in this one.

Skyhigh Haggis | The Sidley Stud | Court J K | 122 | 5/1 |
Has been on the board in a number of stakes races including a third in the ONT Damsel Stakes last fall and was also the runner-up on the main track in the La Prevoyante Stakes. She had a pair of off the board finishes then was third last out vs Alw horses at HOU. Can she keep that going here?

Well, I’m an idiot. Running her back on short rest, knowing she needs a break, picks up six pounds because of the earlier stakes win and she was third last out at SA going today’s distance. The question becomes, she’s about to be sent off to the breeding shed, so run her and hope for the best, or scratch because she shouldn’t be back this fast and/or carry this kind of weight.

She hasn’t won a race since an Alw race at FE back in Sep of 19. She also won this race that same year. She has a number of on the board finishes, but her last two have been last place finishes, one on the turf and one on the main track. Can she bounce back from those efforts?

Her last win came in The Soaring Softly (GIII) back in May of last year. She’s another with a number of on the board finishes, and she’s certainly shown the ability to win at the stakes level. This will be her first trip at this distance, so I guess we see.

Tagged two back for $20.000 and was sent a mile and a half in the first race back where she was second. Fifth last out sprinting on the main track, so they are going back to the marathon distance and they move over to the grass. She hasn’t been on the board in any of her three turf starts, but she been close in those races.
