Kent Stakes Sees Even Field

Kent Stakes – Grade III
DEL Race #1 1 1/8m Turf Graded Stake
Purse $150.000 For Three Year Olds.

1       Owens          Mb Stables        Pimentel J

This is certainly the second string in the race for the stable but having come up with the ace draw and having some strong work times to his name he may be a second string on performance but i don’t think he would be considered a second string in anyone else’s barn. Switching ti turf after a maiden win on the dirt he won a nice optional claimer in a fast time over the mile and then found he was whisked away to the top stable when a $125 offer was too good to refuse for Estero Farms. Since then he won the Woodhaven in a strong time but then came unstuck in the wet ground when fourth in the Pennine Ridge. A dry track will see him back to his best and i have a feeling he is an up and comer to keep an eye on.

2         Stealth Command        Nakamura Stables        Bejarano R

You can never ignore one from this stable and this is another that was recently bought from Estero Farms. This one has moved around disciplines a bit covering sprinting and routing and turf and dirt so it is hard to line up his form. His last two stats have been on dirt where he was a close third in the Jerome and then a well beaten eighth in the Withers and since those runs he hasn’t been seen on the race course. A stakes winning turfer as a two year old he has recently recorded a decent mile turf work and it seems that after a four month break he may be discovering his old self. If he is fit enough he may be the dark horse in the race but running 9 furlongs first up after a break is a big ask.

3        Call Me King            Mb Stables              Talamo J

The second stable runner and he may be the first choice on his nice second last time out in the PEN Mile. There has certainly been some nice forward improvement in this one but that last start and possibly his best ever race was on an off track and that worries me a little. The dry track works are on song though so it may not be a problem and he is one that will definitely stay this 9 furlongs.

4        Insist On Perfection      Maxmillion Farm         Pedroza B

Its a turf route so you have to look very carefully at the turf kings entry especially as they recently shelled out $225 to land this gelding. His last two starts and his recent works have certainly showed improvement and a liking for a turf route and i liked the way he professionally won the Bayou City stakes last time. Certainly a contender here.

5         Out Hoofed           TwinTowersRacing          Sanchez M J

TwinTowers is a trainer that can get a little extra out of his horses at the right time and he may have to work his little magic on this one as he has with so many others in the past. A decent enough sort in overnights his last start was a lot better than it seemed as he tried to make all from a wide draw and only just failed in a sub 1.33 mile. On paper5 he certainly has a little bit to find to win this but i NEVER write off a runner from this stable.

6           Ptyrannical           Arindel         Cedillo A

The wide draw is tough on this one who has some interesting form for this. He started off the year with a wide draw and a disappointing effort in the Holy Bull but he was given another chance at the TC fields in the FL Derby and ran a lot better from a safer draw. Since then he has gone back to the grass and was very impressive in his last start over this trip when a four length winner of a big ticket CD Allowance. He will need a friendly race engine with this draw but certainly has the ability to be in the finish.

SUMMARY

I am going to side with the Turf King here as the consistent Insist On Perfection attempts to take a step into the big time. The two Mb runners will be a big threat as always but i also think Nakamura may have found something with Stealth Command and if he has it may be a decent exacta.
