The Hillsborough Stakes- Grade II

TAM Race 5 1 1/8M Turf

Purse $225.000 for Fillies and Mares

Four Years Old and Up

1st Killer Angels, trained by TwinTowers Racing

After breaking nice, she dropped back to 8th by the first turn. After sitting there around the first turn and down the backstretch, she began to make her move with about 2.5f to go. Entering the stretch, she kicked on the after burners while gobbling up the ground on the leaders. She finally hit the front at the 0.2f mark and ended up winning by a nose. The final time was 1:46.00

2nd On The Straight, trained by Mb Stables

Breaking on top, she ended dropping to 5th into the first turn. She sat there down the backstretch, she began to make her move with about 3.0f to run. She came off the corner into the stretch sitting third, with her eyes set on the pace setter Ghost Runner. Right when she hit the front in the final sixteenth, she got passed right before the wire. A courageous effort but not enough.

3rd Mo Ki Missy, trained by Smokey Stover

Maybe a half step slow out of the gate, she ended up sitting third around the first turn and down the backstretch. She started her move at the 3.0f mark on the inside of On The Straight. Rounding off the turn in 2nd she was trying to run down the pace setter. Right when it seemed she might win she was passed by the winner and runner up. A very nice effort for 3rd.

4th Devil Wears Prada, trained by Carmen

After breaking okay, she dropped back to last as they ran out of the TAM chute. As she sat through the first six furlongs of the race, she started her move at the 3.0f mark. Running on the outside of the eventual winner. While she was outkicked by Killer Angels she still kept running down the outside to finish 4th, nearly missing a top three finish.

Summary

The was a very exciting edition of the Hillsborough Stakes. Only three-quarters of a length separated the top five finishers. The winner and fourth place finished came from off the pace while the runner up and third place finished were very close to the pace. It will be interesting to see how these fillies and mares years end up with the ultimate goal being the Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Turf.
