King Niagra Wins a Grey Stakes Turned into a Pantomime by a Rabbit

10/21 Grey Stakes – Grade III
1 1/16 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $125.000 Open 2 Year Olds.

1st   King Niagra          Team 7 Illusions               Hernandez R M

There’s two ways to win a race at HRP these days and this one’s trainer chose a way that was invented a few years back and since been used to good effect in these big races. Having two runners and sending one as a ‘rabbit’ to set exceptional fractions writes off about half the field and it is clear that this one was set to take advantage of the leader coming through late to win by a neck. Taking nothing away from this son of Niagra he had finished off well from a poor draw in the Iroqouis and deserved a good win however it was set up for him.

2nd   Maybe Tonight          Alydar Stables               Boulanger G

After weakening in the Best Pal his trainer went for a restraining instruction and it turned out to be a great choice with the tearaway front runner. Flying late he nearly won at very big odds but we wont know how good he is until he runs in a more ‘normal’ race.

3rd   Not Perfect           D J C Racing Stables    Lermyte J

Did exceptionally well considering he chased the crazy early pace and may turn out to be the best in this field after getting beat less than a length.

4th   Years Gone Bye           D J C Racing Stables    Da Silva E R

Another who flew from the back he managed fourth in the traffic jam of closers
