Kings Poker Rules in Sir Barton Stakes

6/13/21

  5  WO    Sir Barton Stakes

$150.000    3yo Foaled In ON       1 1/16m Turf         123lbs +penalties

Get in front, improve position from there… my dad used to say it all of the time and Wood Duck Stables’ Kings Poker put it to practice in Sunday’s Sir Barton, setting the pace and going under the wire by a length (it looked more like three lengths to me) in a final time of 1:394 for the mile and a sixteenth on the WO turf course.  Cherokee Falcon came from way back to close late and try to make a race of it, but this one was never really in question… as easy as third-grade English.  Sinissippi Rubicon chased the pace and weakened a bit late, but was able to take the third spot in front of Attention To Detail in fourth.

Kings Poker is a 3yo chestnut gelded son of Edge Of Darkness – French Indian, by Indian Charlie, and he was bred by his owner, Wood Duck Stables, here in ON.  This was his third consecutive win, and along with his two runner up finishes, this one looks to be in fine form and should be heard from as we work through the summer grass stakes races.  Congrats to the connections!

Kings Poker broke alertly, went directly to the lead, comfortable setting the pace throughout, won as much the best.  Cherokee Falcon rated well off of the pace, swung widest for the drive down the lane,  responded when asked at the quarter pole, second best.  Sinissippi Rubicon tracked the pace, out-finished for the place.  Attention To Detail tracked the pace to the top of the lane, tired.  Trilogy tracked the pace early, lost ground through the turn, tired. Action Man was never involved, outrun.
