Korean Boyband Has Hit in Smile Sprint Handicap

7/3/21

2   GP    Smile Sprint Hcp (GIII)

$200.000      3yo&Up       6f  Dirt        Hcp Weights

The only thing that happened in this race that didn’t surprise me is we had a dead-head (for second), and that seems to be just about every race.  However, getting back to the meat of the matter, Korean Boyband, owned by Night Rider Stables, tracked Personal Beliefs throughout the Smile Sprint Hcp (GIII) then went by that one in the lane to score by a length in a final time of 1:08.36 for the six furlong dirt sprint.  Personal Beliefs and Gothic Heart, the latter also involved throughout as a pace-pusher, ended up on even terms to DH for the second spot, a length in front of Mystery in fourth.  There were only six lengths from front to back in the twelve horse field, so it was race where everyone had a chance turning for home.

Korean Boyband is a 4yo gelded son of Day Of Destiny – Call At Sunset, by Cherokee Sunset, and he was bred in NY by Team 7 Illusions.  Acquired by Night Rider Stables just four races back via hostile takeover at the $35.000 level, he now shows four wins from twenty starts and lifetime earnings of $276.800.  This was his second win of the season and he looks to be hitting on all cylinders at this point in his career.  Congrats to the connections.

Korean Boyband broke alertly, second flight between horses to the far turn, began to inch forward at the top of the lane, collered leader inside the furlong marker, won driving.  Gothic Heart showed good early speed 3p, drifted lane, good late foot, even terms for the place.  Personal Beliefs sent from the gate, set the pace to just inside the furlong marker, headed, dead-heat for the place.  Mystery broke in hand, stayed mid-pack to the far turn, lost some ground through the turn 4p, good late effort while no threat to the top trio.  Sinissippi Chai rated well off of of the pace 3p, some late foot.  Cold Case trailed, swung widest for the drive, passed tiring rivals.  Settle The Score Vr pressed the pace to the furlong marker, tired.  Shinning Rubicon rated back racing in the 3p, no excuse.  Play Along was never a factor.  Code Red Party wide trip, no factor.  Salar de Uyuni involved to the lane, tired.  Shimkal Storm saved ground to no avail, tired.
