Kray Kray Kray Goes Wire to Wire in The Mohawk

I was going to pick Kray Kray Kray to win, then at the last second changed my prediction and put Legends Of War on top. At least this time when I did that, I didn’t lose any real money. Kray Kray Kray ran a great race, and continues to show that he is a budding star in this division, and should continue to be a strong threat in NY-bred races on the grass at the very least. Legends Of War meanwhile leaves me holding my hands out in the air wondering what happened, much like I did for a certain NY baseball team who no longer became able to get hits in the clutch. For trainer Blushing Meadows, it is their first win in the stake, and that is also true for jockey D Davis. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:39.58. This is the first time the race was run at AQU, so we can’t compare that time to past editions equitably. Let’s look at the race!

(1/4 Mile- :23.73)- The eventual winner, Kray Kray Kray, takes the early lead for Blushing Meadows, doing so by a full length over the second place Hide The Lemon, out of Ace Racing Stable. These two clear the rest of the field by over three lengths. The others haven’t settled things out between them yet, running four wide. From inside to outside, it’s Clash Of The Titans (Night Rider Stables), Dream Tree (D J C Racing Stables), Legends Of War (D J C Racing Stables), and Feathers Not Dots (Team 7 Illusions).

(½ Mile- :47.17)- The field had not really sorted themselves out yet after two furlongs, but after half a mile we started to get a little more separation from the back four. At the front, it was still Kray Kray Kray looking awfully comfortable on the front end, turning it on just a little bit over the second quarter. Hide The Lemon backed off from the pursuit about half a length more, and now had some company, as Feathers Not Dots became very interested as the field hit the top of the backstretch. They were now side by side. After a gap of two lengths, Legends Of War runs fourth, with Clash Of The Titans to his inside. Dream Tree is another length further back.

(Top Of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- Kray Kray Kray continued to gracefully run his race, leading the way with ease. As they approached the final turn, Hide The Lemon moved over a lane with the hopeful intention of making a move around our race leader. However, Kray Kray Kray did not seemed phased by that, and continued to keep Hide The Lemon behind him by a length. Moving into the stretch, Hide The Lemon again looked to position himself for a move to the front. Feathers Not Dots was having some trouble keeping up with these two and started to lose a little ground. The other three still had not decided to start racing.

(Finish- 1:39.58)- Early on in the stretch, Kray Kray Kray still continued to look okay, but in the final furlong, it looked like he was slowing up just a little bit. Meanwhile, Hide The Lemon kept on pushing, and as the wire approached, the bid was becoming stronger and stronger. For Kray Kray Kray, the wire came up just in time, while Hide The Lemon needed probably another 20 feet. Feathers Not Dots gets third more so as a best of the rest deal, because I thinking someone forgot to tell the other three that this was a race. Dream Tree, Legends Of War, and Clash Of The Titans is the final order.

About The Winner- Kray Kray Kray, trained by Blushing Meadows and ridden to victory by D Davis, is a three year old gelding by the late Pay The Winner, and is out of Muraagaba. He was bred in New York by Blushing Meadows as a third quarter two year old, and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his third in seven starts, and it is his first stake win. His career earnings are now $146.000.
