The racing should be exciting at FG this weekend with several intriguing stakes. Two of them will have valuable points on the line for either the KYO or the KYD. Here, we will take a look at the sixteenth running of the Silverbulletday Stakes, an ungraded stake that offers ten KYO points for its winner. Every point can be valuable, so all twelve of these fillies will be looking to do what they can here for that, all while trying to pick up the winner’s share of this purse. Last year, on a muddy track, Our Athletes picked up the win with Lordess, but she would never be able to build on that result. That race did have Tell It Like It Is, who finished second in the KYO last year, as well as Odd Trek, who won the Acorn. Neither of them hit the board in the Silverbulletday, so those who fail to do so in this race should not fret, as the best could be yet to come. Let’s look at the field!

#1- Creepy Crawlies (Mb Stables, ridden by J R Velazquez)- This filly has been very good in everything other than her lone stake attempt. That came in September at CD for the Grade 3 Pocahontas. Not looking at that, she has been great in overnights, finishing first or second in everything but her debut. Certainly then, she deserves another chance to show what she can do at the stake level.

#2- Kimbo Star (Maxmillion Farm, ridden by Ru Fuentes)- Arrived in the Maxmillion Farm stable following a $100.000 private sale at the beginning of December. She was two for four previously, with an allowance win in October being the last time she was on the track. Maxmillion has taken the time to get her right, and it appears she will be run without bute, which she has run with previously. The layoff could be a concern, here.

#3- American Phoerest (Royalty Stables, ridden by A Cedillo)- Early in her career, this Forestry filly has taken a liking to finishing third, running there in four of six starts. Her last two races, including the Grade 1 Starlet, show her running with the lead group all the way to the wire, but maybe needing a little more desire to pick up a win. We’ll see if that can change, here.

#4- Shes A Super Freak (YME Stable, ridden by V Espinoza)- Ran in the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf two months ago, and was able to pick up the fourth place check in the race. Would not stay on the grass afterwards, and would end up in the Grade 1 Starlet for her last race. In that, she was near the back early on, and passed a few to get up for fifth, but still missed by three lengths. The potential seems to be there on the grass, but you can’t blame the trainer for hoping it can translate to the dirt.

#5- Tall And Fast (Arindel, ridden by T Gaffalione)- The trainer was able to pick this one up back in October for a $20.000 claim at CRC. She won that race in the slop, and followed that up winning her first with Arindel, where she stretched out to go over a mile. Off of that, she was sent to the Grade 2 Golden Rod at the end of November, and looked good in a fourth place effort. I like the promise that she shows, and this will be Gaffalione’s third straight race in the saddle for her.

#6- Fuzzy Lovin (Arindel, ridden by J J Castellano)- Another one that Arindel picked up via the claim, this one coming for $23.50 at WO in July when she won a maiden claimer by four lengths. While she has not won since that race, she has been able to build on that with solid performances in ungraded stakes. With a little more luck at the wire, she could have captured both the $75.000 Our Dear Peggy and the $250.000 Princess Elizabeth, for Canadian-breds. The Grade 2 Demoiselle did go poorly for her, but she can overcome that.

#7- Pie Hole (Greeko Holdem, ridden by A Beschizza)- This one will run longer for the first time, and has just one win out of her four career starts. That win came against three other NM-breds at ZIA, so she still has a little bit to prove. That can certainly happen here, but it also makes her tough to pick in this field.

#8- E Road (Fractious, ridden by D Davis)- Still lightly raced, this filly will be making her third career start and hoping to build on her five length maiden win. That came right here at FG, against LA-breds, where she came from behind to win while drawing away. This time, she has far better company to battle, but her works are promising to have some success.

#9- Bay Of Indy (Serenity Stables, ridden by M J Sanchez)- The Chai Bay filly has one win in three career starts, that coming in November at HAW. After getting that result, she went to LA and barely missed in a second place effort at the $100.000 Soviet Problem. Turned out a good looking work at SA just before New Year’s, and is an interesting one to watch in this field.

#10- Big Challenge (Waldo, ridden by R M Hernandez)- This is the only horse in the field that would run in the BC Juvenile Fillies. In that race, Big Challenge ran well but missed out on a check in her fifth place performance. To get there, she ran third in both the Grade 1 DMR Debutante and the Grade 1 Frizette. Based on all of that, she is certainly one of the favorites on paper, and we will see what her three year old season has in store for her.

#11- Match On A Fire (Alydar Stables, ridden by J Stein)- Certainly not lacking experience at the stake level as she comes here off of consecutive Grade 2’s. The grass did not suit her well in the Miss Grillo, but she moved to the main track with success for the Golden Rod, where she ran second. Seems to be a horse with a ton of heart as her works do not really jump out at you, but she is getting it done on race day time and time again.

#12- Derby Girl (Nakamura Stables, ridden by S Ryan)- Our final horse in the field is one that has yet to earn a penny. She won on debut at MNR back in September, but a month later, did not beat anyone in a PA-bred allowance. After that, the trainer has allowed her to get some time off, and will now hope for a big run here. A little inexperienced for me to pick, and starting from the outside is never appealing.
