There’s Smiles All Around After La Canada Stakes

La Canada Stakes – Grade II
1 1/16 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $200.000 Filly & Mare 4 Year Olds And Up.

1st Laffy Crack Night Rider Stables Van Dyke D

It is always good to see the five year olds at this time of year free’d from the shackles of weight allowances and this one has certainly got onto that bandwagon quickly with a solid win in this competitive race. Coming from a nice mid pack position she quickened up strongly and looks destined for a good next couple of months at least.

2nd Miss Steel Mazula Nakamura Stables Gutierrez Mario

The trainer filled second and third with a couple of four year olds who did very well in their first attempt at level weight racing. This one made up a lot of ground and may have been a little inconvenienced by his instruction or running style from a draw that will always keep them a bit closer out of the gate. She eventually went back to where she wanted to be but then left her new challenge too late. A promising effort.

3rd Prime Illusion Nakamura Stables Pereira T J

Like all of the first three came from off the pace and pretty much ran with her stable companion through the last half mile. I think she ran a decent race and whilst she may continue to be a little inferior  to her box mate there will be some good race to come for her.

4th Broadway Stripes Glorify Stables Hernandez J J

The wide gate speed push put her on front and the wide gate speed push saw her weaken in the closing stages, this was however a good effort and was probably the right finishing spot for her. The new race engine may make things different in the coming weeks so i wouldn’t be trusting this form if she meets any of the first three again.
