LA Derby Throws Up Unlikely Dead Heat

LA Derby – Grade II (P6) [KYD]
1 1/8 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $1,000.000 Open 3 Year Olds.

=1st Withdrawn, trained by John Henry
Never far off the front he led at the mile mark and looked home but was collared on the post and had to share the win. His last win was a maiden last September and he has been beaten in six straight stakes races before today and that goes to show that your turn will come at HRP if you persevere. He heads to the Derby now and with a good gate would have as good a chance as any.

=1st Atletico, trained by Our Athletes
Showed the rather fragile class system at HRP is a little off kilter to keep on bravely to force a dead heat right on the line. Beaten nine lengths in the Smarty Jones he was well beaten on this track in a one win allowance last time but managed to get into the KYD field with only his second career win today. Again he takes his chance in the Derby and with the way these races have been going will have as agood a chance as any.

3rd The Right Stuff, trained by Mb Stables
Beat Withdrawn in the Gotham and on a form line through him had eight lengths over Atletico but neither of those facts could change the result today.
Never far off the pace he just couldnt quicken when asked and had to settle for a close third. As form lines grey you would have to give him every chance should he make the Derby field.

4th Mucho Cruncher, trained by Aer Stables
Flew from the trail but had to settle for fourth, this was a good effort but probably wont be enough to see him in the Derby. Watch out in the BEL field though.
