La Marseillaise Takes Beholder Mile

3/13/21

   7    SA   Beholder Mile (GI)

             $300.000     3yo&Up F&M        1m Dirt           123lbs

Hey, what do you know, we got one right… I’m more shocked that la Marseillaise was sent off at 9/2 odds than that she won.  But, the biggest takeaway is that Witeout Stables’ La Marseillaise closed from way back to get the job done, winning the Beholder Mile (GI) getting the flat mile in 1:34.90 over the main SA surface.  Pacesetter Laffy Crack couldn’t hold off the winner late and ended up a length back in second, three quarters of a length in front of Orange Beach in third.  We had a dead heat for fourth with On The Flop and Envy inseparable on the line.

La Marseillaise is a 5yo bay mare by Atomic Twister – Mum Is The Word, by Peppermint Moon, and she was bred in Cal by Blushing Meadows.  She was acquired by Witeout Stables at the Sep 2019 Auction for $15.030.  This was her second graded win in the early part of this season, so the current F&M Sprint Champion looks ready to build upon her impressive resume’.  This was her ninth win from twenty-three lifetime starts and she now shows $1,237.200 in earnings.  Congrats to the connections!

La Marseillaise broke a step slow, rated back off the pace, responded when asked, pulling away late.  Laffy Crack was sent from the gate led to deep stretch headed, game.    Orange Beach raced just in behind the pace, evenly late, no excuse.  On The Flop pressed the pace throughout, tired in the late stages.  Envy raced evenly throughout while no threat.  Pocono Fashion pressed the pace to the top of the lane, tired.  Pure Addiction was outrun.
